Five Reasons it is Great to Be Left Handed

Mandy Hill
Sometimes being left handed can make a person feel weird or different. I am left handed and I don't know how many times someone has told me that I write with the wrong hand. I always thought it was just because I was unique and creative, and it turns out I am right. There are a lot of different reasons it is great to be left-handed. Here are my five favorites that I found using James T. De Kay's, "The Left-Hander's Handbook."

1) Left-handed people tend to be more creative and imaginative than right-handed people. This would explain why Michelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci were left-handed.

2) Only about ten percent of people are left-handed, so that makes us unique.

3) If you play baseball, being left-handed is a great thing.

4) Left-handed people tend to feel more and think less. This makes for a very interesting life.

5) There are usually more left-handed people in show business than right handed people.

No matter what the reason, it is great to be left handed. Sure we have to work a little harder to learn to write, cut with scissors, and, let's face it, just about anything because we live in a mostly right-handed society. All throughout history, there were many well known people who were left handed. Whether they were artists or presidents, people thought they were strange for being left handed. You may get a lot of attention for being left handed, but who says that is a bad thing. Think of being left-handed as a way to stand out from the crowd. It is also a great conversation starter. I don't know how many times someone has stopped me in the middle of a post office or the check out line in a supermarket because they saw me writing something left-handed. Whether or not you think so, being left handed is great!

I love to write. I don't just love to write, I love to research and write interesting things that people will want to read. Things that people will need to read. I write for me and for anyone searching.  View profile

I'm a leftie and every teacher I've ever had tried bringing me down or flunking me because they said my writing skills were pretty slow. However all my parents noticed (plus defended me with) was that I had some pretty sloppy writing when I was little. That didn't stop me from keeping up with anything we were doing though (and acing it). I'm only wishing I had this article to wave in their faces back then~

Being a left-hander is awesome. It's so cool to be a part of a minority.
