Five Reasons Not to Buy a Jeep Wrangler

Autumn Skies
For the past two years I have been driving a Jeep Wrangler, and I cannot unload it fast enough. Here are five reasons not to buy a Jeep Wrangler.

Reason 1. You do not want to deal with Daimler Chrysler. They are perhaps the single worst car company to deal with. It took me eight full months to get them to send the title of my vehicle to the Department of Motor Vehicles so that I could register it in a new state. During that entire period, I had to drive around with an expired registration from my previous state. Customer service at Daimler Chrysler is awful, and not a single person all the way up to management is courteous or helpful in any way.

Reason 2. The Jeep Wrangler is a gas guzzler. Now that gas prices exceed $3.00 a gallon in many states, you want a vehicle that is fuel efficient. A fuel efficient vehicle saves you a lot of money, cuts out many trips to the gas station, and helps our environment. My Jeep Wrangler costs over $40 to fill the tank, and a single tank lasts only approximately 200 to 250 miles, depending on whether they are highway or city miles.

Reason 3. The soft top is incredibly difficult to open and close. We leased the Jeep Wrangler because we wanted a convertible, but we hardly ever take down the soft top because it is so difficult to open and close. You strain your fingers and waste plenty of time trying to operate the soft top on the Jeep Wrangler, and it just is not worth the time and effort.

Reason 4. Forget about talking or listening to the radio while you are traveling in your Jeep Wrangler. The cabin is way too loud while the vehicle is in motion. It sounds as though you are riding on a motorcycle or roller coaster. The wind on even the nicest day roars through the Jeep Wrangler so that you have to scream if you want to be heard by your passengers.

Reason 5. The two-door Jeep Wrangler simply offers no room for anything. Even grocery shopping becomes a tremendous pain in the neck, because the trunk area is not large enough to hold anything more than a few bags. You can put the back seat down, but that in and of itself is an effort. And these are just five reasons not to buy a Jeep Wrangler.

I loved the Wrangler when I was a kid. Always wanted to buy one. Until I was actually ready to buy and realized I was not what they call a "jeep person". And if you care about (1) comfort, (2) convenience, (3) storage space, (4) fuel efficiency, (5) speed, (6) aerodynamics, (7) protection from the elements, (8) not performing circus tricks to get in the back seat, (9) proper customer service, (10) a separate credit account for repairs ... then you are not a jeep-person either.

That makes us non-jeepers "lazy, spoilt, city-folk" who don't get it. Get a Mustang/ Miata/ Saab (depending on which continent you prefer) and leave the JW in the dust, which (I gather from jeep-people) is where it likes to play anyway.

JW is best as a second car for a trail racing / off-roading enthusiast, with no financial issues with regards to supporting their hobby.

You are so right - DO NOT BUY JEEP - they do not stand behind their products - the 5-50 warranty does not transfer! and at 41k the transmission failed! they will do nothing!

It's a jeep thing. People using it for taking the wife, mother-in-law, and the kids to the grocery store, while listening to the oldies on AM radio just wouldn't understand.

    Go buy a Hyundai Santa-Fe.

Yes, that's correct. All five chapters. But nevertheles my wife and I enjoy driving Jeep so much!!! I cannot explain that. Really, it's just a Jeep thing. But at the same time we have our Jeep for fun. I usually drive to work and back on Corolla.

It's a Jeep thing, and you obviously don't understand. I drive a 2000, I get around 10 MPG (Pretty bad I guess), I never use a top (It's loud, keeps the passengers quite). It's a Jeep, not a car, not an SUV; it does what it was designed for very well, and can survive on the street, but it isn't a luxury vehicle. Don't buy a Jeep as an SUV or convertible, buy it as a Jeep: The Ultimate Utility Vehicle.

Okay, now that I've seen the reasons why not to get a Wrangler (and I've read even more than that), I still want one. It has been my dream car since I was younger. There are performance upgrades that can tackle the gas mileage issue, which I plan on investing in. As for noise, I don't really talk in cars anyways, and I don't like loud music, so I have no problem with the wind noise!

your a crack head if you bought a wrangler and dont love it. ive had 4 different jeeps over the past 6 years and this past year i got the 2010 4 door 6 speed with nav and it is like being in a luxury car that can go anywhere. the hard top comes off in to so many pieces and its not hard to take it off and putiton. i love these things and you obviously need to be driving a cadillac

dammnn rightttt it is a jeep thing.
city ppl can't appreciate a jeep. Lazy ppl don't like to waste time taking the top on and off. Jeep is AMERICAN made and is one the simplest vehicles to work on and order parts for. It is it's simplicity and off road capability that makes us people crazy about our jeeps

    it is a jeep thing
