Five Reasons to Not Let Life Get You Down

Sagery
I do not pretend to be completely unflappable. There are certain situations that rattle me to my bones. My mother has been sick for the past 3 years, and that is never an easy thing to deal with. However, I do believe that there is nothing in this world that is reason enough to stay depressed. The purpose in all of this, is to illustrate why it IS good to be an optimist. Additionally, I am naive or uninformed about life. I understand that life is a very complex thing, and human nature even more so. However, I do believe it is possible to be happy despite all this, and there are very good reasons to be so.

First of all, life is just easier being happy. The less you interrupt the flow of life, the easier you will get along. If you refuse to see something as a serious problem, then it is not one. I guarantee worrying and crying about something will NOT fix it. It is much easier to look at a situation in an upbeat and level-headed manner. I'm not encouraging anyone to go into full out delusions and ignore that there ARE problems in your life. Just the next time you are faced with a difficult situation, see if not letting it affect you negatively makes it easier to deal with.

Secondly, unhappiness steals your life from you, and you won't even realize it. Think of it this way, if on average someone was unhappy for 30 minutes a day. That is a full-weeks worth of unhappiness in a year, and that is a low estimate. Every second you waste being unhappy, is a second you could be enjoying life. Life is still a limited commodity. One day, you will die. One day, I will die. When that day comes, you will not be able to take any amount of money or success with you. Life ends, it is something you have no control over it. What you can control is how you live your life. Personally, I want to be able to think back on my life, and not regret a single thing. I want to know that every chance I could, I enjoyed the life I was given. I don't want to look back and realize how much time I wasted being unhappy. Unhappiness is just that -- a waste of time.

Happiness makes you healthier. Studies have shown that happiness increases cardiovascular health, and decreases the risk of diseases such as diabetes. As someone that has witnessed the complete havoc cardiovascular disease can wreck on a person, there is nothing in the world I won't do to fight putting someone through the same. Diets are hard to follow sometimes. Exercise is hard to keep up with every day. Happiness is something very basic that you can do very easily to help your health. So, why not?

People respond to a positive attitude. Everyone has worked with someone that just completely ruins your day. You can be glad the sun is shining, and they will make a comment about skin cancer. It gets to the point that you avoid conversation with them. Don't be that person that people avoid. This is not to say to give up all wit and sarcasm. You can make jokes without being negative. You will also fine that positivity gives you confidence, and allows people to see the confidence you do have. I really do not intend to sound like a self-help book here, but if you believe you can do something you can. If you choose not to let anything bother you, than nothing will. When you are a truly happy person, you don't feel bad about yourself for anything. Everyone could do with some "improving," but just like anything else in life make the best of what you have. Make the best of the day that you have. That is all anyone can ask for in life. That you did the best that you could, whenever you could.

Finally, happiness is just that. Is there really a better reason for being happy, than you are happy. Happiness is one of the most sought after things in the world. Everyone spends their life searching for completeness, for everything that just makes life completely enjoyable. The problem in a lot of ways, is that so often people believe you have to obtain something to be happy. You don't have to have the perfect job or life to be happy. Everyone has the option to be happy. It like anything else in life, is a choice we make for ourselves. In all seriousness though, why not be happy? Don't let life get you down. It's worth it.
