It is true that Windows Vista is currently the latest Microsoft operating system and Windows XP will become obsolete in the future, but that is not reason enough to switch to Windows Vista right now. There are a lot of reasons you should not switch from Windows XP to Windows Vista. Below are just 5 of them.
1. Vista is Too New
Windows Vista operating system is relatively new. As with any new operating system, there will be glitches and bugs that need fixing. If you were to get Windows Vista right now, you will get to experience the bugs that still exist in the operating system. It will take at least a few more years before Windows Vista is an industry-standard operating system of choice.
2. Windows Vista is Expensive
The standard edition of Windows Vista currently costs $200, and the professional Windows Vista costs $400. Even if you are upgrading your current Windows XP to Windows Vista, you will still have to pay the full license cost for your new Windows Vista operating system.
3. Mostly Cosmetic Changes
There is nothing of great significance that the Windows Vista offers over Windows XP in terms of core functionality. Most of the new "features" in Windows Vista are really just cosmetic changes over Windows XP. There really is nothing that you can't do with Windows XP that you can with Windows Vista that is of major significance.
4. There is a Learning Curve
As with anything new, the visual interface of the Windows Vista operating system is new and different than that of Windows XP. I have used Windows XP for a long time and it took me at least a few hours of using Windows Vista to get used to the new look and interface. You will have trouble finding where everything is in the new interface if you have been using Windows XP.
5. Vista-Software Compatibility Issues
There is plenty of software that is not yet compatible with the Windows Vista operating system. For those of you that have a lot of software installed on your Windows XP, most likely, at least a handful of them will not work with Windows Vista or will require an upgrade or add-on for the software to work with Vista.
