Cancun and Riviera Maya are popular beach destinations that are right next to each other, but they are many miles apart when it comes to what's offered. Beaches
With many of the large hotels spread apart, you're bound to find more sand to stretch out on in Riviera Maya than Cancun. Tulum

Xcaret
A cross between a theme park a tropical jungle and a lesson in ecology, Xcaret is a must see that you can only find in Riviera Maya. If you stay in the area you can get a multi-day pass (discounted at some local hotels) and really explore. Among the things you can find there are underground rivers and lagoons, a wildlife breeding farm, a coral reef aquarium and even a Mexican wine cellar that takes you through a 400 year history of the beverage in this country.
