Five Reasons to Say I Do to Your Mother's Wedding Dress

Weddings are a very sentimental time. It's when family and friends get together to celebrate a couple's new beginning and also when conversations lean toward past weddings and marriages. This is how and when the subject of whether or not to wear your mother's wedding dress comes up. There are many reasons why you should choose to wear your mother's wedding dress, and a couple why you shouldn't.

In today's age where everything is about being good to the earth and having a smaller carbon footprint, recycling your mother's wedding dress is almost mandatory! By wearing your mother's dress you are reducing the amount of waste made by making a new wedding dress and by reusing the dress instead of throwing it into a landfill.

One reason of course is sentimentality. There is something special about wearing that family heirloom ring and it is the same with a wedding dress. Perhaps there is the hope that whatever good luck the wedding and marriage had will be transferred to the new wearer.

A more practical reason to wear your mother's wedding dress is financial responsibility. The price of weddings can literally force parents to mortgage their homes. Why not ease the pain by wearing your mother's wedding dress?

Along with being financially responsible, wearing your mothers wedding dress gives you a peaceful mind. You get a pass on all the dress shopping and fitting rooms. The pressure of picking the perfect wedding dress out of countless bridal collections can drive a nervous bride -to-be into anxiety attacks.

Another reason to not buy a new wedding dress is that after the reception the dress will just go into storage. Storage fees and storage climate and security will not have to be a concern if you wear your mother's wedding dress.

In spite of all the reasons to wear your mother's dress there are good reasons not to wear the wedding dress. One is dress size. If the dress size is slightly too small than it is a good idea not to try and diet yourself into that dress. Many brides bawl when they find that their dress is not fitting even though it did two days before. It is an unfortunate fact that women can gain weight due to stress or bloat for various reasons. Since getting married is a very stressful time, it is wise to wear a wedding dress that fits comfortably and not snug.

Another reason not to wear your mother's wedding dress is the style. A woman should feel beautiful on her wedding day and if your mother's wedding dress makes you feel unconfidant or less than the ultimate vision of beauty than you shouldn't wear it. However you should be kind when using this excuse.

When choosing whether or not to wear your mother's wedding dress, try to be open minded. You might be surprised at how much it would mean to your mother to have her daughter wear her wedding dress.
