1. Both are undefeated and in the top ten.
Boise is ranked 8th and one of the only two undefeated college teams in the top 25, the other being Ohio State. They should be meeting for the title. What better way to settle it, the one who wins is #1. If there are more then two teams that go undefeated like in 2004 then all bets are off, and the same goes for no unbeaten teams.
2. Strength of schedule is a horrible determining factor.
There is no computer generated schedule for teams, it's set up by people ahead of time, and some games are set up a few years ahead. Good luck if your Boise State trying to get a game against a Michigan or a Florida. There is a problem when teams change conferences just to try and get a shot at a title, as Louisville and Cincinnati have done.
3. Having this match up shows the BCS is not biased against smaller conference schools as they claim.
It would tell Div-1 teams that you don't have to be one of the most popular and powerful colleges to get a shot at the title. Why are all these teams in that division if they don't really have a chance to qualify?
4. Some people still want to see the two teams with the best record play for a title.
Contrary to what you may believe it's not about the biggest fan base or market share for many sports enthusiasts, especially when there are so many teams to cheer for in college football. Unfortunately, I wonder if there are enough of us purists left to make a difference in the ratings.
5. We love the underdog.
Who wasn't pulling for the Bruins to eek out the eventual upset over the Trojans? That kind of stuff is what people talk about for decades. Sure, Ohio State would probably crush them, but what if the Broncos won, or at least stayed in the ballgame and you got to see it.
Best yet, and this is almost reason number six, people will still get to argue. And isn't that the best part about sports, the endless debates?
But who are we kidding here; the BCS isn't about an actual, legitimate champion or getting it right. It's about the powerhouse teams, money, and ratings. It's the perfect system for the modern state of sports.

Post a Commenti wonder if "ryan norris" has changed his mind after the BOI-OK game. I would certainly prefer a tournament similar to basketball, although I realize a 64-team tournament in football is a bit much.
Yeah, it kinda sucks how half the teams are eliminated from the championship before they even start playing.
I don't buy your argument.
