Five Reasons Why the New Phone Should Not Be Purchased for Your Teen

Mrs. Renee
When it comes to keeping up with the trend, it seems parents are behind, and teens are up to date. The latest buzz is the new iPhone from Apple, which is due out sometime in October. Most teens probably already know tons of information about the phone. If you are parents however there are several things that you will want to think about if your teen asks for the latest IPhone.

Basic is best

When it comes to cell phones for teens it only makes sense to get the very basic. Teens may need a phone to contact family in case of emergency, but they do not need all of the extras. Access to the internet is really one thing that teens can live without. Especially since most families have internet access in their homes, which kids can use when they really need it. So if they ask for the latest iPhone, share with them how the phone they have covers their basic needs.

New phones make you a target

Let's face it whenever a teen gets something new, they have to show it off. That is actually the point of getting it in the first place, so they can show it off. So everyone that they see will know that they have the latest iPhone. This will end up making them a target for theft. If others see that they have the brand new iPhone, someone is going to want to take it from them.

Increase in budget

When teens get a new cell phone most are not paying the bill themselves. Instead most of them are using the phone while their parents pay for it. If you are constantly getting the newest phone for your child, you will only be increasing your budget. This is usually the biggest reason among many parents, since budgets are tight for many.

The target market

After reading several articles on the apple iPhone, I have learned that teens seem to be the target audience. So they are making all types of special features and apps that will help to attract the teen market. Just because they are marketing something towards your teens this does not mean that they need it. Keep in mind that the phone your child currently has, or getting them a regular phone is just fine. The regular phones will still work, just fine.

Not ready for the responsibility

Most teens are really not ready for the responsibility that comes with owning a expensive iPhone. Maybe a refurbished iPhone, but not a brand new one. Just think about how many times the phone can get dropped, lost, and loaned to friends. Of course all kids mature at different levels, so only a parent would know if their child was ready for this type of responsibility.
