Five Reasons Why You Should Work at Home

Lauramarie
It is now 3am and you still have not got any sleep. Just as you are beginning to nod off the baby starts crying for the 3rd time since midnight. When will it ever end! By 4am she is settled again and you return to bed and before you know it your alarm clock is sounding, 7am time to get up. By the time you defrost the car and drive to work slowly as the roads are extremely icy you are 15 minutes late and your boss is giving you the evil eye again. Can things get any worse, surely there must be a better way to earn a living?? Good news is there is, why not be a stay at home mum or dad. Working from home brings many advantages.

1) You get to spend more time with your children and don't have to pay nursery fees.

You will hear them speak their first word, take their first steps, and be there to collect them from their first day at school. Stay at home mums generally have a stronger bond with their children as they are always there for them, when they are sick, when they want to tell you about their A star essay, and when they are down. Saving on nursery fees is a massive bonus too. If you have several children you could be paying out thousands of dollars monthly, which your salary wouldn't even cover.

2) Save on travel expenses

You do not have to spend money on gas, petrol or transport costs as all your work will be done in your living room. With the rising costs of travel this is sure to save you a few hundred dollars monthly.

3) Save on clothes

You will not need a separate wardrobe for work. You can just as easily type up that article in your PJs, as I am doing now, or in your tatty jog bottoms which you do the cleaning in. Point being you do not have to have your hair gleaming and your make up perfect as no one else will see you apart from the computer screen. This saves time and money.

4) Choose your hours, decide when you want a break

Probably one of the biggest advantages. If you are not feeling your best why not take that extra hour in bed, or perhaps you need to pop into town. You have an important appointment, you can make it for once rather than having to cancel and reorganise it to suit your work. Meet a friend for lunch and not have to rush back to the office, these are all advantages that working from home offers. The only disadvantage here is that you need to be very motivated to complete tasks. Quite frequently you will not have your boss on your back saying this needs to be completed. Self motivation can be hard but if you have it working at home may be the thing for you.

5) Choose your jobs

If you really do not want to do something you will not have to do it, simple as. You can pick and choose what suits you.

Overall working at home gives you immense freedom and helps you save cash also. It can be a fun way to earn an income and has benefits for you and your family.

I'm a stay at home dad, I know the joys of being here for all those moments. My kids are 6 and 9.
