1. Discouraged by others. It's so easy to let the "Negative Nelly's" get you down in this business. If it wasn't hard to make good money don't you think everyone would be doing it? I find it that usually the people closest to you are the ones that are the naysayers in the beginning more than anyone. They don't want you to join another "thing" or deal with rejection. They want to protect you from success. The funny thing is they are also the first people to come running when you are successful and tell you how they just "knew you could do it." Put your blinders on and do what you need to do in order to become successful and those that are negative will come around when they see the money.
2. Hindered by past disappointments and hurts. If you haven't failed in your life that you certainly haven't succeeded very often either. Failure and disappointment is part of life and without it you wouldn't know the joy of success. You have to let go of the past and focus on the present because it truly is a PRESENT! Fear is: False Evidence Appearing Real and nothing more. We psych ourselves out so much it's truly amazing that we get anything accomplished. Don't be afraid to make the changes you need to alter your future.
3. Settling for average. As I mentioned in #1 the majority of the people we are surrounded by are average and ordinary. Don't let them get you down by convincing you to settle for a barely there paycheck. Living payday to payday is no way to live when you could be doing so much more with your life. If you have a little talent and a lot of work ethic you can make it in a commission business.
4. Lack of confidence. The best way to work on this is to go do and figure out what works and what doesn't and learn to overcome objections and close sales. Listen to tapes, read books, and find a mentor to help you gain more confidence.
5. Lack of imagination to dream. You need to start dreaming again and your dream needs to be big enough for your entire team to hook their star onto as well. Create a dream map, put up pictures of homes, cars, and places you'd like to travel and find a dream that motivates you to the next success.

Post a CommentA great introduction to commission based sales can be found in the book To Be or Not To Be Intimidated by Robert Ringer. He speaks from the perspective of a real estate agent, but the overall lesson on how cutthroat competition in commission based sales can be will be helpful no matter what you're selling.
This is great information. I love the title, too-it pulls you in to the article. Will keep these in mind.
Some good points. Any time you try to work at home in any capacity you have to deal with people who tell you you'll never make it. Push hard and show them they're wrong!
