Five Romantic Chick Flicks Men Secretly Love

Sophia S. Mark
Every male will talk about chick flicks with disdain, but in reality, there are more than a few that they actually like and even some that they secretly love. Yes, love. The truth of the matter is, chick flicks can be very funny, especially romantic comedies, so many men actually really enjoy watching them. Here are the top five romantic chick flicks that men secretly love and will actually sit down willingly to watch, even if they pretend to resist at first.

50 First Dates (2004)
Fifty first dates is one of those ironic chick flicks because the male lead, Henry Roth, is actually the one who falls in love with Lucy and is ready to commit. The irony is in the fact that Lucy suffers from short term memory loss and can't remember her relationship with Henry no matter what he does to try and win over her heart. The entire movie is funny and Adam Sandler as, Henry is the perfect casting for the character-- and part of the reason men secretly love to watch this chick flick.

When Harry Met Sally (1989)
When Harry Met Sally is a classic movie, that practically every man out there has seen and most of them love it. The film is about two friends who fear a sexual relationship will ruin their friendship, though they are both intrigued by the possibilities. Fact of the matter is, most men and women can relate to this scenario and seeing it play out on screen leads them to think about their own possibilities. All in all, it is a fun chick flick and I know several men who have this film on their top ten lists.

Mean Girls (2004)
Mean Girls might not classify as a romantic chick flick, but it is definitely a top contender and one chick flick that men love to watch. It is almost like a train wreck that you cannot ignore and have to keep checking out. Part of the hilarity that is Mean Girls is due to the awesome acting, but ninety percent of it is due to the writing of Tina Fey. We all knew A-list cliques like The Plastics, so watching them on film is entertaining and funny.

Moulin Rouge (2001)
Sadly, Moulin Rouge is one of those films that the men around me will watch because of the women and the provocative dancing in skimpy outfits. They are not really into the budding romance that takes place between Satine and Christian, but then who really is? For a musical, the romantic chick flick, is very entertaining and as down to earth as a musical can be so that men will actually love it, much less like it is a surprise to me, but true.

There's Something About Mary (1998)
There's Something About Mary is hilarious, even if most of the comedy in the film is reused and expected-- it works well. This romantic chick flick makes guys laugh, so they don't think too much of it being a chick flick to begin with. There's Something About Mary stars funny man Ben Stiller and lovable Cameron Diaz in a film about a high school crushes that we never got to see through.

I love this article because it so describes my husband. He swears he hates these movies, yet he has sat and laughed through movies like 27 Dresses and Made of Honor. Great article!
