Five Simple Ponytail Styles

Joyce Carole
I am definitely a jeans and ponytail girl. Ponytails are one of the most versatile hairstyles and perfect for warmer weather. Here is a guide to five great ponytail styles that work well for those with medium to long hair.

Low Ponytail - Steal Jessica Simpson's Sexy Girl-Next-Door Look

Gathering hair at the nape of the neck and fastening into a low ponytail is a casual yet sexy look (think Jessica Simpson). This look works best on those with long hair that is wavy or curly. The best low ponytail requires that you gather hair at the nape of the neck and secure with a ponytail holder. Complete this sexy, casual style by wearing bangs swept to one side. Spray hair lightly, add a pair of hoop earrings and your favorite jeans and t-shirt and you will have that perfect sexy (but not trying to hard) look.

Disguised Ponytail - Elegant style for formal occasions

I used to call this style the "genie look" when I was a little girl. The disguised ponytail is most often seen with a high ponytail, but it also works with a low or regular height ponytail. All that is needed to achieve this polished look is to leave out about ½" chunk of hair when fastening your ponytail. Simply wrap the chunk of hair around the ponytail holder and fasten with a hairpin. For those with super long and straight hair, you can leave more hair outside the ponytail. Continue to wrap the hair around the ponytail holder until you have formed a small bun around your ponytail. Secure hair with several hairpins and spray well. This glamorous look can be worn to the most formal events.

Accessorized Ponytail - Perfect Hairstyle for the Beach

My favorite beach look is to wear my hair in a ponytail with my favorite scarf wrapped around my head as a headband. Combining your favorite ponytail with a scarf or headband is a great way to keep flyaway hair at bay. This look can be worn with all hair lengths and textures. High Ponytail - ala Kim Kardashian

Long straight hair looks gorgeous when pulled up in a high ponytail. Simply brush hair into a high ponytail and fasten with your favorite ponytail holder. A high ponytail looks best when fashioned at a 45-degree angle from the chin. If you want to dress up the style, leave out a ½" chunk of hair, wrap that around the ponytail holder, and fasten with a hairpin. Spray. You can pull all hair back into the ponytail ala Kim Kardashian or for a trendy style, wear bangs swept to one-side.

Flirty Ponytail

Thisstyle works well on those with shorter to medium length, wavy or curly hair. Simply gather hair into a loose, high ponytail. Leave some strands out to frame your face. You can wrap a few strands and fasten with hairpins for a partial updo. The secret to wearing this style is for it to look like little effort has been used. This casual messy style looks cute and sassy. This is the perfect style to wear when out running errands.

Cute. It's a while since I had my hair long enough, however.

I like ponytails but I sure don't look like that chick in the picture when I wear them. LOL
