Five Simple Ways to Better Health

1. Get Enough Rest

Getting eight hours of sleep every night is impossible for many. However, the health benefits are amazing. Sleep has restorative benefits that cleanse and rejuvenate the body. Whenever possible, try and go to bed around 10 P.M. You don't have to fall asleep right away. If you like, watch a program or read a book. Lying in bed for a few minutes calms your mind, and prepares your body for sleep. Around 11 P.M, turn off the television and lights, and go to sleep. Other ways to get proper rest include taking a quick powernap in the early afternoon or immediately after work.

2. Exercise Regularly

A regular workout routine offers several advantages. For starters, a cardio workout gets the heart pumping, burns fats, and lowers your risk of developing certain medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer. Additionally, exercise is proven to boost energy levels, relieve gastrointestinal problems such as constipation, and improve your mental state.

3. Reduce Stress

The effects of stress on the body are damaging. Due to our hectic lives (work, raising a family, school, etc.) it's normal to feel overwhelmed and stressed-out. If you want to improve your overall health, start with reducing stress and anxiety. Adopt the motto: live for the day. In other words, don't worry about tomorrow's problems or yesterday's mistakes. If one aspect of your life causes a lot of undue stress, find ways to remedy the problem. This might suggest looking for new employment, cutting ties with a toxic friend, etc. If you can't break the anxiety/depression cycle - get professional help.

4. Drink Green Tea

Green Tea has several health benefits. This powerful antioxidant is proven to be helpful with fighting cancer, relieving arthritic pain, lowering high cholesterol, and repairing the immune system. With so many types of Green Tea, you can find a flavor that suits your taste buds. If you drink coffee on a daily basis, replace your morning or evening cup with Green Tea. To reap the benefits, drink two to three cups a day. Because Green Tea contains some caffeine, drinking a cup before bedtime may cause insomnia.

5. Get an Annual Physical

Many medical conditions such as anemia, elevated liver enzymes, and infections are detected with a blood test. A routine physical plays a huge role in staying healthy. Some people never visit their doctor, wherein serious medical problems go unnoticed for several years. If you have a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, etc, it is important to have a yearly physical.
