Five Spices You Should Have

S. E. Masters
Nobody has the recipe for a perfect life, but there are a few spices that will assist you with cooking up a better you.

Laughter
When was the last time that you laughed until you cried? Felt good didn't it? Laughter can arouse all of your senses. Check out a local comedy club. Comedians are a gift. They can inform you about things that you need to know and make it funny at the same time. Also, check your local television listings for comedy on HBO, Showtime, BET, TVone, and Comedy Central or try renting videos of George Carlin, Richard Pryor, George Lopez or Def Comedy Jam (Martin Lawrence years).

Laugh at yourself sometimes. I'm still laughing at how the manicurist laughed at my feet the last time I got a pedicure. She told me that my pedicure has "to be continued" because she couldn't take care of it all this time. Is that funny? Okay, it's shameful and too much information, but funny.

Laugh often. Laughter is a spice of life.

Children
Young or old, children can give you joy. Seeing the little ones discover life and "things" is a joy to experience. They could be you nieces, nephews, grand children or neighbors, kids are a joy to be around. Even the little bad ass kids are fun to be around after mommy or daddy puts some heat on that behind.

The older kids can keep you young. Listening to their disgusting music can be enjoyable when you purposely screw up the lyrics. Those same older kids give you joy when they thank you for telling them what the real world would be like, and now they see it for themselves.

Sure, your kids can give you early grey, but they are still a spice of life.

A Close Friend
A close friend is your sounding board, your punching bag (figuratively speaking), your slap back into reality, your confidant, and ace-boon-koon. A close friend can be your ointment when you're feeling the strains of life, and that same friend may need the same care from you - that's a beautiful thing and a spice of life.

Travel
You may not get to go everywhere, but you can go some place. Pack your bag and hit the road, sky, track or sea. And if you don't have anyone to go with you, go solo. Visit the places that you have read about, seen on the screen or heard others talk about. Trips can be planned several years in advance. You may never know, but the place you visit might be called home some day.

See this planet - it belongs to you too. Think of it this way, the world could be a better place if you saw it. Traveling is a spice of life.

Quiet Time
Quiet time is making time to love yourself and love for whatever it is that makes you happy. It could be your favorite music, meditation with your Almighty God, reading, cooking, crafts, taking a walk or just listening to your inner self. Quiet is healthy and peaceful, and helps relieve stress. Quiet time can rest your mind and energize your body. Quiet time is your time - time to feed yourself the substance that you want to go into your head. Shedding a tear periodically helps soften your heart. Quiet time is an important spice of life.

A change of the taste in your pace is good for you.
