Here's the lowdown on what I took to get me over my cold quick. Just so you know, I'm on day 4 of the cold and I barely feel a thing. I'm not coughing, hacking, sneezing, or sniffing. I've only blown my nose a couple times today, so my system must've worked!
One
Take an Airborne the very minute you feel you're coming down with a cold. It shortens the duration of my cold every time. I took two Airbornes the day I came down with my cold.
Two
Take two DayQuil gel caps about two hours after you take your Airborne. If it's in the morning, wait four hours or until your next meal and take two more gel caps. I know some people only take one, but I find it works better if I take two in the first day.
One Day 2 of your cold, you can reduce the DayQuil gel cap intake to once per meal, except dinner. Do the same for Day 3. You might want to take 1 gram of Vitamin C and / or a 50 mg Zinc tablet each day as well to fend off further sickness and give your body a boost to help with the current one.
Three
Take two NyQuil gel caps each night for nights 1, 2, and 3 at least. Reduce to one gel cap per night if you're feeling better and discontinue use once you're not really stuffy any more.
Four
When you're sitting in bed and feeling sorry for yourself, pop in a Hall's lozenge. I use the honey lemon flavor. Make sure it contains Menthol-Lyptus to help soothe your nasal passages and make you breathe easier. It kind of tastes a little like Vicks Vaporub, but it feels good and takes your mind off your cold.
Five
Try to stay in bed as much as possible. Don't walk around the house too much, and try to use only one bathroom to brush your teeth and wash your hands in to contain the disease. Limit the use of things like computers and telephones or you'll only have to disinfect them once you're healthy again.
As with any cold remedy system, I can't actually guarantee you'll be better like I am within a few days, but you should at least be able to knock that ten-day cold down by a few days.
