Five Summer Dates You'll Both Enjoy

Sarah Barr
Summer is the sexiest time of year. It's time to break the mold, slap on the sunscreen, and spice up your love life. Here are five fun date ideas for a flirty fling or long term couple that will make this summer the hottest one yet.

Hit the Water Park

Spending hours lounging by the pool only leads to sunburn and a lot of sweating. You'll spend more time napping than bonding. Try hitting your area water park instead. Places like Emerald Point in Greensboro, NC offer discounted rates after a certain time of day, so grab an early dinner and go make a splash. The rush of adrenaline from the water slides will have you screaming and laughing together (not to mention boosting his testosterone levels), and you'll enjoy the benefits of spending the day checking out each other in your bathing suits.

Go Berry Picking

The fruits are plentiful this time of year. Find a farm nearby that allows you to pick your own berries. Spend the morning chasing each other around the blackberry vines and stealing kisses behind the peach trees. Most places charge a fraction of the grocery store price and the feeling of accomplishing a task together will maximize your bonding time. Top the date off by making a fruit salad for lunch and dining outdoors.

Go to an Outdoor Concert

This seems like an easy one, but the catch is that you must find a band neither of you have ever heard before. Many cities have outdoor events at least one night a month that showcases local artists. Grab a blanket and a cooler and spend a little time relaxing to some fresh new sounds. If the band is great, you'll have a new favorite to share. If they're terrible, you'll have a few good laughs and a story to tell your friends.

Try a New Outdoor Sport

Nothing spices things up like a little competition. Pick up some cheap rackets and try your hand at tennis. Throw a frisbee back and forth. Join an adult softball team. Race from one end of the pool to the other. What you do is not as important as how you do it. The exercise will boost energy levels for both of you, and the friendly competition will make you both feel like kids again.

Take a Day Trip

Summer schedules are busier than ever and budgets are getting tighter. Instead of taking a vacation together, plan a day trip instead. It's not just the vacation itself that relieves stress, but the anticipation of the vacation as well. So even on a budget, you and your other half can plan a day trip or two for the summer. Pick a great hiking spot you've heard of, check out a historical manor like Monticello or Biltmore, or just drive to a town you've never been to for dinner. The trick is finding something that you are both interested in seeing and head out together.

Ha! Our 25th anniversary is tomorrow and maybe we'll have to go on a "date" like you suggest.
