Five Super Popular Muscle Cars

Stacy J. Day
Muscle cars are often a car fanatic's dream come true. They are vehicles that were created for high performance, and they often look as good as they perform. These cars have fast engines which are intended for race competitions, although some owners of muscle cars participate in street races as well, although they are not legal. Unlike fancy sports cars which are expensive and often specially-designed to participate in formal races, muscle cars are usually more affordable and are usually 2-door rear-wheel drive vehicles with powerful V-8 engines. Out of all the various muscle cars available, the top five muscle cars that on high are on the popularity list are highlighted below.

Pontiac GTO - This vehicle was the first true muscle which originated in 1964. Models were built from 1964 through 1974 and then manufacturers didn't build new models until 2004. This powerful vehicle originally came equipped with a 5.7 liter V-8 engine and was later replaced with an even larger 6.0 V-8 a year later, and also boasted a massive horsepower of 400. Unfortunately the Pontiac GTO ceased to be manufactured after the 2006 model came out because prices became too expensive due to the large engine and sales steadily declined. Despite the fact that new Pontiac GTOs aren't currently manufactured, muscle car fans will always love "the goat", the GTO's original nickname.

Dodge Charger GT - To most muscle car fanatics, this popular muscle car is an absolute legend. Supercharged with an impressive 4.7 liter SOHC, 16-valve V-8, as well as 325 horsepower, this powerhouse of a car the ultimate muscle car. With a low-thrusting hood, rear-wheel drive and menacing front grille, the Dodge Charger GT will always be a car the muscle car that is sought after by racecar enthusiasts.

Chevy Camaro - There are many models of the Chevy Camaro that make these muscle cars quite popular. Originating in the late 1960's, many muscle car enthusiasts prefer the 4th generation model, which was built in the 90's and offered a powerful V-8 engine, 300 horsepower, and the ability to go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 13 seconds flat. Unfortunately due to lagging sales, the Chevy Camaro was retired in 2002 but a new and improved model was reborn in 2010, with a massive 400 horsepower, but prices are somewhat steep compared to in the past.

Ford Torino - The 1969 model, specifically the Ford Torino Talladega, was entered into a Nascar race at the Talladega racetrack in Alabama in its early days, which made it super popular. Racing versions of this car were fitted with an awesome and powerful Ford Boss 429 engine.

Ford Mustang GT 500 - for this car, most fanatics prefer the 2007 model of this sought after muscle car. Complete with a large V-8 and a 5.4 liter engine, this car is not only fast and powerful, but attractive as well.
