Five Things Guys Should Know Before Watching the Movie "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse " with Their Girl

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" - Movie Review for Guys

Rolando Cruz
Let's face it; most guys who are catching the movie Eclipse on opening week are probably doing so to please their better half. Not that that the third installment of the Twilight series is all that bad, it's just that it's clearly not the type of movie most guys would go pay $10 to go see on opening week. In fact, most guys who probably flip right through this movie even if it was offered for free on cable, but that's a totally different discussion. However, how I found myself taking a day off to go see the movie with my significant other was rather simple matter, I owed her for dragging her out to the premier of Iron Man 2. Iron Man 2 of course being the better of the two movies. Still, for guys who will be dragged to Eclipse this weekend here are five basic things to know before hand.

Don't Joke About Edward and Jacob

Look, we all know guys really don't talk or act this way in real life, much less make such a fuss over a girl like Bella (Kristen Stewart), but the movie is after all based on a novel by a woman (Stephanie Meyers) who has a legion of loyal fans. So, if you want to make sure your girl enjoys the movie, don't lean over and try to say something funny when Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) are on screen. No matter how funny you are, or you think you are, it will not go over well. And while guys really don't sound that way, girls really wish they did, so if you pay attention you may learn something.

If You Don't Know, Ask (Before the Movie Starts)

Eclipse is the third installment of the franchise, and there is still one more to come. Chances are the girl you are with has not only seen the first two but has read all four books as well (five is you count the novella about Bree), and she will be more than happy to fill you in on the plot lines, the characters, and even how the movies deviate from the books. Asking for a brief recap of the whole Saga before hand will make it a lot easier to follow and understand the movie. It may also make the girl you are with a lot happier.

They're Not Really Werewolves They're Shape Shifters

Even if you are a Sci-Fi buff and know all about werewolves and vampires, there are a few things you should know about these wolves and vampires. First of all, these vampires glitter in the sunlight. Why? Who knows, Stephanie Meyers dreamed them up that way. Second, the wolves are not really werewolves per say, they are more like shape shifters that take the shape of wolves. Oh, and some of the vampires come with extra abilities, like mind reading, foreseeing the future, inflicting pain with their minds etc. So, whatever you do, don't go picking on the vampires and wolves because they are not prototypical in nature.

Don't Go Looking for Sex Scenes; this Vampire is "Old School"

I have a best friend who would be terribly disappointed with this movie, since he would not consider the lead actress hot, and since there are no sex scenes in it. For what it's worth, Edward is an "old school vampire," and Bella is a virgin, and Stephanie Meyers is LDS. So even though they are tempted, Bella and Edward will wait until they are married to have sex. I personally have no issues with it, but if you are like my best friend, and are looking for sex scenes and whatever else comes with it, you are in for a disappointment.

The Special Effects are Cool

Even if you are not into the romance, and the wannabe love triangle that is Edward, Bella and Jacob, you will nevertheless be a bit impressed with the special effects. The wolves are definitely cool, and the vampire fights are cool as well, especially when their (the vampires) body parts shatter like a something that has been dipped in liquid nitrogen. So if nothing else, sit back and enjoy the special effects.
