Five Things About Men that Drive Women Crazy

Kelly Russ
Since I'm recently single, I've been increasing my circle of friends and (gasp!) even considering re-entering the dating pool. Inevitably this meant hanging out with more guys. Don't get me wrong - I'm having a ton of fun. But it's reminded me of five things about men that drive me nuts (in no particular order).

1. Being Unreliable

There is nothing worse than thinking you have plans with a man (a date or just hanging out) to realize the day-of that he has no intention of following through. Don't make promises or commitments you can't deliver on, and if you have to break plans, is it so hard to give a girl more than an hour notice?

2. Being/Dressing Like a Slob

I appreciate comfort more than most girls, so I am not opposed to loose-fitting, ripped old jeans and flip flops or comfy gym pants and a tank top. But I draw the line at a lack of showering, non-use of deodorant, forgetting to brush your teeth or T-shirts so old you have pit stains and holes! C'mon, guys - it is possible to be comfortable and laid back while also being somewhat presentable and avoiding the dirty sock smell. And for God's sake, clean your toilet if you have a girl coming over!

3. Gym Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Everyone needs exercise and physical activity, and hitting the gym or running in the park are great signs that you value your appearance and health. But it gets obnoxious if you're there three or more hours per day, every day, and all you can talk about is your workout routines and how much you bench-pressed today. This is especially irritating if you're on a dating Web site - if you devote more than two short sentences to your gym routine, it leaves me thinking you're compensating a lack of brain power with huge muscles.

4. Deceitfulness/Failing to Communicate

Obviously lying is a big no-no. But some guys omit certain truths intentionally, which falls under failure to communicate. Another big one is non-responsiveness to calls or messages. If you're trying to blow off a girl, just say you're not interested. (Yes, this works both ways - women need to be more upfront as well.) Nothing is a bigger time-waster than a person who can't clearly communicate what he wants or needs.

5. Being Unoriginal

This one is definitely a personal preference, as it's so frustrating to hear "So, what do you want to do?" anytime your guy friend or potential boyfriend calls you up. If a girl is always the one coming up with date night ideas, she's going to get burnt out on you really quickly. Showing a little originality once in awhile goes a long way. Pack a picnic basket and have lunch outside instead of the usual restaurants. Send her a CD you burned with diverse songs you thought she'd like instead of delivering overpriced flowers that will die in three days.
