Never throw away disc's or documentation
In your hurry to use your new computer some people ignore the obvious. You need to put all disc's and documentation in a safe place. Make sure you fill out any needed warranty information. There may come a time when you will need this stuff and you should know exactly where it is. Many people have said to me they needed to find their disc's when bringing me their computer to fix. Its just like throwing cash down the toilet if you don't keep important stuff like this in a safe place.
Never fail to read and understand your warranty
You need to know exactly just what your warranty covers so if its not adequate you can upgrade it. Most manufacturers give you a certain amount of time to upgrade your warranty or even to return your computer if it doesn't function like its supposed to. If you decide you don't want your new computer and you want to return it you have 30 days and will be charged a 15% restocking fee. You need to understand your warranty and your rights so you don't regret it later.
Never setup your computer in a closed shelf
Your computer needs to breathe and have proper ventilation. If you put it in a tight space it will run hot and eventually overheat. If it overheats you can damage the entire system to where parts will fail and need to be replaced. Many people make this mistake of cramping a computer into a tight area where it cannot breathe. This also means do not pile a bunch of papers and books on top it either. Keep your computer workstation free from debris.
Never fail to run Windows updates
When your computer arrives from the manufacturer not all updates were done and never are. Its up to you to make sure your computer is up to date as far as updates and virus definitions. This is just not done at the factory. The computer manufacturers load the machines with a loader that does not have all or very few of the Microsoft updates. They leave that responsibility up to you. Before you go and surf all over the Internet run your updates first.
Never fail to register and update your anti-virus program
I have seen many who never update their anti-virus or after the free trial have an adequate anti-virus loaded on their machine. Your just asking for trouble if you don't keep spyware and viruses off your machine. Many computer programs are software related and not hardware. You need to keep your computers software protection up to date or you will regret it later.
These things are elementary yet so many people forget them when they get a new computer. Don't you make the same mistake.
