Five Things Not to Do When Picking a Prom Dress
Should You Go Low? Should it Be Flashy, Slinky, Sexy?
Spring. The air is full of birds chirping, bees buzzing, and your own sobs. What to do about this prom dress. Your mom says 'oh you don't need a new dress, wear last year's' and your father says 'that look's nice hon.' without even batting an eye. What is a girl to do?
1. Don't make it fit. I mean, lets face it, the price tag looks nice, but that roll of fabric around your ankles says it all. If you don't have the money for something drop down-drag out beautiful, try looking around for inspiration. You'd be surprised at what stylish retro looks are in your mother's closet.
2. Don't dress like a twig if you aren't one. . If you've actually got a figure, [like yours truly here] don't go for the straight look, you'll look like an idiot. Go for something to accent the curves! Be yourself!
3. Don't make a bad color choice. Pick the right color. Have you ever looked over, and saw the sickly looking white girl in the yellow dress? Well, that goes to show you, PICK THE RIGHT COLOR FOR YOUR SKIN, ok? Your skin doesn't change color, the dress does. If you're pale, go medium. If you're medium, do lights. If you're dark skinned, watch out for the really black, blue, purple fad, it'll make you look like a raccoon.
4. Don't forget, length makes it happen. Go the right length. If you're short, a dress that drags the floor makes you look like 'hum, I wonder if that's so-and-so's little sister' lookm ok? And if you're tall, and you wear short stuff, people wonder why your parents won't buy you new clothes at least once a year. [Ayla, on American Idol was a prime example of a tall person who looked like a stork because she didn't go long enough]
5. Don't Forget to Accessorize. you need to look stylish, right? So go with some flashy shoes, a cool bag, and real make up here. And a note girlfriends, don't go for the goth look, that makes your dress look like a sleezy outfit. If you need ideas, try a craft store. Fix up an everday purse with buttons or jewls, or fix up those old shoes with some stick on diamonds.
