Soil
Aubretia plants need to be planted in soil that is well-drained. They can adapt to a wide pH range in soil that is either dry or moist. However, you will have greater success growing these plants if you add a small amount of organic fertilizer when planting.
Water
Aubretia plants should be watered on a weekly basis. As mentioned earlier, the soil should do a good job of draining excess water so the roots won't sit in soggy soil. Conversely, you shouldn't overwater the plant either.
Overwatering aubretia plants will cause the leaves to start turning yellow in the center. You should also water in the morning so it has time to evaporate before nightfall. You can also put mulch down around the plant to help limit water evaporation. Mulch is especially useful in dry or hot weather.
Sun
Aubretia plants should ideally be located in a sunny spot. The plants are natively found in cool to sub-tropical climates. They are quite hardy against frost.
Flowering
Aubretias are semi-evergreen plants. They have a long flowering period that appears during the spring. The plants flower between April and June.
Pruning
Aubretia plants can become quite leggy if not pruned properly. After the plant blooms, you should pinch back or cut the stems. You can use a pair of pruners or garden scissors to complete this task.
These are a few tips on caring for aubretia plants. They should be planted in soil that is well-drained. You should also make sure that you water them on a weekly basis.
