1) Write what you are interested in or are knowledgeable about
If possible select niches you have an interest in or are knowledgeable about. This way you should be able to write quicker, and more articles generally mean more money. If you pick an area you know nothing about you will have to allow for the research time needed.
2) Breaks are a necessity
Just like in a 9-5 job a freelance writer must take have frequent breaks throughout the day. Sitting at a computer screen all day is not good for your eyes, or brain for that matter. A break in the fresh air will help you stay focused on your writing. Drinking 2 litres of water each day will also help boost your concentration levels. For times when you are feeling tired a caffeine boost may also be required.
3) Peace and quiet
Noise is not a good idea as this may disrupt your pattern of thought. Make sure and set aside a quiet room in the house where you will have silence to write. If you have many distractions such as televisions or indeed kids then you are less likely to be as productive
4) Treat yourself
A productive week of writing deserves a well earned treat such as an expensive meal or that posh new frock you have been eyeing up. If you get used to getting treats then you are more likely to work harder and be more productive so that you can get treats more often.
5) Have a timetable
A timetable is a great way to plan your daily, weekly and even monthly writing jobs. This ensures that you get all the required assignments to clients on time and helps you identify when you are running short of time.
A freelance writing career can indeed be a lucrative one, but productivity is the key here. If you can stick to deadlines and meet client's demands then you should make it as a freelance writer

Post a CommentGood tips- Problem is that tips tend to not be too much help to those who are essentially undisciplined. THAT issue is its own subject!
These are excellent tips, Lauramarie. I find that I get more out of my writing when I write on topics that I am knowledgeable about. I'm more confident and I get more done.
