Grants: A lot of people assume that they make to much money for grants. Grants are often given to students with higher incomes then you might think. You have to find out if the grant is based on your family income or solely the students income. While grants are not an option for everyone they are definitely something you should look into and see if you are applicable.

Scholarships: Many people overlook scholarships if they aren't the top student or an athlete. There are scholarships out there for everyone. They are many scholarships that are based on your kids interests. There are also many scholarships available through your community. You can apply to several different places for scholarships, remember all the small ones add up.

Loans: Student loans can be daunting because the student will have to pay these all back. But loans are a great option for people that don't have another way of attending college. If you plan on getting student loans make sure that your child is sure that they want to finish college and start work otherwise they will be in debt with no way to pay it back. Some loans can even start to be payed back after you have your degree by doing community service. So while loans are not the best option they can work out.

Go to a local or community college: Going to a community college can be much cheaper then going to a large university. You can do your first two years at a local college then transfer to the university of your choice. This will cost the total cost of college in half.

Taking a long distance college program: This can be a great option because you can stay local and save money on room and board. This can also save more money because these programs are often accelerated programs, and if you finish college sooner it will save you money. Finishing college sooner will help by having less tuition that you have to pay overall, also it gets you working in your dream job sooner.

Get a job: This is often the most obvious one, but it is often overlooked. Your child can get a job that will greatly help with the costs of college. It can be a long shot but there are several colleges that actually offer free college, if the student works certain hours on the campus. Getting a job isn't the best option for everyone but it can always help with the college tuition.

The important thing to remember is that college never has to be out of reach. If you get creative and do your research you will find many ways that will help you pay for your child's college tuition.
