Five Tips for Maintaining Your Weight During the Holiday Season

Let's face it, during the holiday's everyone loves to eat. This is not the best time to be thinking about a diet or getting back into shape. What do you do however if you are trying to watch your weight during this time of the year? Can you enjoy yourself and watch your waistline at the same time? Here are some ideas.

Find time to exercise during the holidays. This is the best way to help yourself survive this time of year without putting on extra pounds. Exercise will make you feel better and will also help you burn off extra calories. Let's face it, you are going to eat around the holidays. You should! Enjoy yourself but make sure you get to the gym to burn off the access.

Limit your second helpings. You can enjoy all of the great foods that are prepared during this time of the year. Just eat in moderation. Try whatever you like but don't go back for multiple servings. This is especially the case when it comes to desserts. Cakes and pies usually have lots of calories and fat so you need to limit your intake of them. Have one piece, but not the entire pie. Don't forget to drink lots of water as to flush this through your system.

Stay very active. Exercise is not your only way to burn calories. Get out the house and go for a walk or play with the kids. Do something as a family outdoors if the weather permits. When your moving your burning calories instead of storing them. This will help you immensely in maintaining your weight loss goal.

Keep track of what you eat. Often it is very easy to forget just how much we have eaten. Keep a written account of what you've eaten or try one of the many online programs that helps you keep track of calories. Fitday.com is a great place to track your daily meals and caloric intake.

Get rid of the leftovers. After the big meal don't keep lots of leftovers at the house. This will only serve as temptation later on. If you are hosting the dinner volunteer extract food for guests to take home. Send an extra pie or cake home with a guest. If you are serious about maintain you weight you've got to do whatever it takes to stay on track. Extra food in the house will only lead to extra eating later.

Staying in shape is no easy task especially around the holidays. However with a little effort it can be don.
