Five Tips for Saving Old Shoes

Save Money on Shoes by Giving Them a Makeover

You can save money on shoes by finding retail bargains, buying used shoes, or by referring to toe-holes as energy saving air conditioning devices, but why buy new shoes or wear old shoes when there might be a good pair of shoes hiding under the shadows in your closet. A perfectly good pair of shoes might need a few new accessories, or a new face lift so that you can save money by not buying a brand new pair of shoes.

Five Ways to Save You Shoe's Lives

1. Use shoe polish to shine up those steppers. Having black and white shoe polish on hand can save you a good deal of money. Clean the shoes, and get a cotton cloth, wet it, and rub on the same color polish to give the shoes a significant makeover. You can use a little bit of acrylic paint to cover the shoe lace eyelets as part of this job.

2. Sew the seams of sneakers. Washing the sneakers will make them look clean, but sometimes the seams split apart, especially at the heal. Before considering transferring the shoes to the trash, get some matching thread and sew them.

3. Buy new shoelaces, not new shoes. Sometimes, all a pair of shoes needs is a new pair of laces. After a few other clean-up jobs, a bit of polish, the shoelaces will make them look nearly new.

4. Buy comfortable feet pads, not new shoes. Comfortable shoe inserts will make the shoe more ergonomic, as well as reusable.

5. Replace shoe buttons, buckles, or other accessories when they have fallen off the shoe, or have become broken.

Overall, a thorough clean-up job on your shoes might require some bleach and a toothbrush. Do not be afraid to snip loose threads, sew some seams, and replace common shoe-parts.

You might not opt to wear your refurbished shoes to a fancy meeting or dinner, but wearing these shoes can be perfectly acceptable for casual and daily activities. The difference between a dirty pair of tattered laced sneakers and a clean pair of polished sneakers with new laces can be astounding. You will save money on shoes, and you will earn a karma point or two for being environmentally responsible.
