Five Unique Gifts for Writers

Della R. Buckland
Everyone has a writer in their life, whether they are published or not, and buying gifts for them can be difficult. Writers are passionate by nature and enjoy the unusual whether it is to make them laugh or to help them on their next project. This article offers five unique gift ideas for the writer in your life.

1. Dive Slate (suggested retail price $14). This slate is the plastic board that divers use to write underwater. They come in various sizes, have an attached pen and can be clipped on a hook in the shower. Most writers (me included) tend to get there best ideas while bathing and paper gets soggy and most do not want to use a tape recorder in fear of damaging the machine, thus a dive slate can be a great tool. The writing will not come off unless is it removed by the writer. Dive slates can be found at such places as www.amazon.com or at a local dive shop.

2. Swimming Jellyfish Aquarium (suggested retail price $30). Although a bit pricey, this desk size aquarium [7 ½" x 10"] can help soothe the writer by their floating antics. These life like florescent jellyfish bob in the aquarium with the help of hidden jets and the LED lights change to give the jellyfish a different appearance each time your writer gazes into it.

3. Head Massager (suggested retail price $7 to $15). All writers get headaches from crunching words and bringing characters to life. This spider shaped device stimulates pressure points along the scalp, soothing frazzled nerves and recharge writing reserves. The head massager can be simply a copper toned handle with stainless steel arms to a rosewood handle with solid copper arms. Either way the writer will enjoy the moment of peace while being recharged.

4. Mini desktop ZenGarden (suggested retail price $10). All writers get stumped on the next direction they should take, enter in this mini garden. The full garden is the size of a dollar bill [4"x3"] and comes with rocks and decoration [not much larger than a dime] to help the writer relax and find their way back to the project. The garden also comes with a manual to help the writer understand the meanings behind their raking.

5. Gift Cards (suggested retail price - varies to amount). Although these are not as unique as the above items, the cards in this suggestion can help the writer further their project. (a) Office Supply Stores - are candy stores for the writer from simple pens and papers to the next big electric gadget; (b) Bookstore - can help the writer with inspiration and research as well as offering a place for the writer to write while enjoying the quiet company of books; and (c) Music - is the soundtrack for any writer. Most choose songs that match the tone of their projects. Keeping them supplied with music, keeps their muse happy.
