Five Unique Uses for Terra Cotta Pots in Your Home

Amazingly inexpensive and completely customizable, terra cotta pots make a great addition to just about any home. Here are five unique uses for terra cotta pots in your home.

#1: Spice & Seasoning Packet Holder

Spice and seasoning packets can easily take over kitchen drawers if not properly organized. A simple terra cotta pot can easily contain them in your cabinet. Choose a pot that is big enough to hold the largest seasoning packet that is generally in your supply. Or, consider a few pots in various sizes for organization and separation. (Example: salad dressing packets in one, gravy packets in another, etc.) If desired, you can even decorate the pot with acrylic or texture paint for an added touch.

#2: Hair Tie Holder

One surprising and often overlooked use for terra cotta pots in the home is as a hair tie holder. A small terra cotta pot is perfect for holding hair ties in a bathroom space. Decorate the clay pot as you wish and then place it on a countertop. Or keep the terra cotta pot stowed in a cabinet space. Either way, the hair ties inside are neatly gathered.

#3: Desk Organization

Another great use for small terra cotta pots is for desk organization. Purchase three or four identical clay pots. Use one to hold paper clips, one to hold pencils, one to hold rubber bands, etc. Arrange them in a row for easy access. The pots can also be decorated to match the rest of your home office space with paint and/or embellishments.

#4: Kitchen Utensil Holder

Why waste a drawer in your kitchen with spatulas, wooden spoons, etc? Decorate a medium sized terra cotta clay pot to match your kitchen space. Insert the kitchen utensils into the pot and place it directly onto the countertop. This is a great design for Tuscan themed kitchens, as well.

#5: Treat Jar

A fun and whimsical treat jar is always a great addition to a home. Decorate a medium sized terra cotta pot with anything you'd like -- spray paints, brush on paints, wooden embellishments, buttons, plastic jewels, etc. You can even customize the treat jar to the season or time of year. When done, insert individually wrapped candies or other treats and enjoy.
