Five Unique Ways to Reduce Injuries

Bradley Tupe
Let's face it, we are fragile beings and we know it. We spend a lot of time toughening up by visiting gyms and eating the right foods. We try to injury proof our body in many ways, shapes, and forms. Prevention of some injuries may require a bit more defense than others. Even a toothpick turned the wrong way flying at a certain speed can cause significant harm. Knowledge on how to protect ourselves from the world is critical.

The most important thing to remember in reducing injuries is to lower the risk of one even occurring at all. For example, avoiding the urge to bungee jump or antagonize an angry woman will obviously save you some limbs and hospital bills. Some injuries happen by chance and can never be seen coming. These are probably the most frequent type of injuries because they can happen at any time. Here are some unique ways to prevent bodily harm:

Jackie! One more thing. . .

This may seem unusual to some because karate class is a place where a lot of people can receive injuries. Trying to break a block of ice with your head aside, it can be a great place to prevent injuries too. Learning quick kicking techniques, for instance, can stabilize your knees and strengthen the joints of the legs. You can also prevent injuries by kicking the mugger in the face before he steals your purse. Ka-Pow! With all of the things you can learn in a karate class, you are sure to be more of a injury prone bad ass.

Sleep comfortably

Millions of people around the world aren't sleeping properly. The most likely causes are a bumpy bed, hectic work hours, or getting attacked in your sleep like Bam Margera does to his father. The truth is that if you want to be less fragile during the day, then sleep is absolutely necessary. To avoid those stiff neck problems, purchase a more comfy mattress with contoured pillows. Sleep also heals and recharges your body so you are stronger against hazards during the day.

Become a Spartan warrior

Getting into shape is one of the most surefire ways to prevent injury. If you're tougher physically, it will be much harder for you to sustain most common injuries because your body will be stronger. I'm not saying to climb a mountain using just your strength or wrestle with a man considerably larger than you (there's a chance you could be injured), all I'm saying is to hit the gym more often. Be tougher on yourself. Ask yourself if you are really capable of getting up and working out. The answer is that you are. Begin by eliminating the excuses and get pumping.

Hate a jackass

If you are one of those interesting individuals who seek pain and injury like those fools on Jackass, then you probably don't even know this article exists. It is understandable for people to seek thrills and excitement. It's human nature. But to put yourself in harm's way for a cheap laugh will eventually leave you in the ICU. It would be wise to leave the jackassing to the jackasses. They get paid money to harm themselves. You most likely don't.

Stand up like a man

If you're trying out for the part of The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 then having a slumping posture is crucial to your success. However, if you realized in your every day life that you are a slouch then it is time to stand up. When your posture is poor, you are more prone to injury. Your back muscles are weaker so that lifting a child may cause you to scream like one. Anytime you are not lying down, whether you're sitting, walking, standing or lifting, you should make sure to practice a more upright posture. You'll also look more powerful and dominant in doing so.

Injuries are a part of life just as sex is a part of reproduction. We all get them at some time or another. We all do our best to protect ourselves and others. To keep ourselves out of harm's way is just common sense isn't it? Prevention is the best defense against injuries so just try to stay safer out there. When Mr. Injury comes knocking at your door, kick him like Jackie Chan.
