Five Unusual Christmas Vacation Ideas

Christmas vacation is one of the most exciting times of the year. Most families try to find at least a little bit of time during the holiday season to take a family trip. Christmas vacations do not always have to all about Christmas trees, presents, and holly jolly fun. Just because it is the Christmas season, it doesn't mean that you have to have a Christmas themed vacation. Here are some unusual Christmas vacation ideas:

1.) Have fun at the Beach - Nothing brings a family together like sand and waves. Even though it is December, there are many beaches that stay warm enough to visit all year round. If you have frequent flier or rewards miles, this is a great time to cash those in. Going to a beach can be a great break from the cold weather of winter and the hustle and bustle of Christmas.

2.) Become a snow bunny - Skiing can be an enjoyable activity and provide a great place to spend time together as a family. Pack up the family and drive to your nearest ski slope, especially if there is one close by. You can ski all day long, and then unwind by the fire with some hot chocolate and spend some very valuable time with the family.

3.) Pool Party - I know what you are thinking; December is not the time to go swimming. You don't have to hit up a community pool to have a pool party. Take your family to a local hotel with an indoor pool for all the fun, without the coldness. You don't even have to leave your hometown to have this great Christmas vacation. It will give you a glimpse of summer fun during the busy Christmas season.

4.) Do unto others - Christmas time is a time of giving. Use your precious vacation time to help those that are less fortunate. Take a few nights to serve others at a local soup kitchen or homeless shelter. Without volunteers, many people wouldn't even get a hot meal for Christmas. If you teach your family to serve others, you will grow just as close as you would if you had taken that "regular" vacation.

5.) Romantic getaway - If you are alone with your spouse for the Christmas season, take advantage of the time together by visiting a local bed and breakfast or a spa. You can get great couples packages to pamper yourself. Winter can be harsh on your skin and there is a lot of stress that comes along with the Christmas season. What better time to relax and spend some one on one time with your significant other.

No matter where you choose to spend your Christmas vacation, the most important thing to remember is to enjoy the time together with your family. The holiday seasons can be the perfect opportunity for your family to grow much closer together.
