Five Ways to Avoid Annoying People on Facebook

Lauren Romano
There are so many things on Facebook that you want to share with your friends that you could end up annoying them after awhile. While the majority of people are aware of what can be annoying, there are still some that continue the habits without even knowing that it can be irritating. If you have a Facebook page, here are some ways that you can share information without overdoing it.

Avoid updating your status message twenty times a day

Each time a person updates his or her status message, it shows up on the news feed of everyone on the friends list. A status message should be a brief clip of something you want to share and a good amount of people change the message three times or less per day. If you want to update yours more frequently, Twitter may be a better option for you.

Delete multiple status messages

Just because you change a status message quickly to fix the first one you typed incorrectly, it does not mean that the initial one disappears. Not only does it show up on your friend's news feeds, but it also shows up on your wall. In some cases, I have seen five status messages saying the same thing in different variations, all posted within seconds of each other. To delete any status messages, go to your profile page to the right side of each message and delete it from there.

Leave private information and cursing off of profiles

Unfortunately, some people bring up private information about another person via their wall or someone else's. Cursing also seems to be popular among some individuals. While neither may seem like a big deal, colleagues and others can see this, which can not only be considered disrespectful, but it can be cause problems. It is best to leave the cursing off Facebook and leave private information left to private messages.

Avoid sending numerous application and quiz invites

While some quizzes and applications are fun to pass on to others, sending too many will most likely irritate the recipients. Even though an application or quiz will ask you to forward it to your friends, it does not mean you have to in order to get the results. You can use the "skip" option or click on the small "continue" link without forwarding it to anyone.

Send a note with your friend request

If you want to increase your chances of someone accepting your friend request, include a note with the request telling the person how you know him or her if it is someone you just met or haven't spoken to in awhile. It can be irritating to some people when they spend time trying to figure out how they know a certain person only to realize that they may not actually know the person at all. No one wants to feel embarrassed thinking that he or she forgot who someone is.

Facebook is a great way to stay in touch with your friends and loved ones. It is easy to get caught up with sharing information, but sometimes, all of that information can be too much. If you are aware of how much information you are outputting, you can avoid those uncomfortable annoying moments between yourself and your friends.

Great information. Especially annoying to me is that "request" for games and applications.
