The first thing that I would like you to understand is that even though we worry about something does not mean that we are necessarily able to change it. The next time that you decide to worry about something analyze it and ask yourself if you can change the situation. If you can't then you are going to have to learn to let it go. Another question that you can ask yourself is that if by worrying will you gain more time. The answer to this question is NO. You are actually losing time. You are losing precious moments of your life that could be spent in peacefulness. Here is an example for you. You need to be somewhere by 8 a.m. but you left your home too late. You know that you will never arrive to your destination on time. Will driving like a maniac and fretting get you there faster or safer? Not necessarily. Statistics show that you might arrive a few minutes earlier but what did it cost you? Did you almost injure yourself or someone? Would it not have been better to sit back and relax and tell yourself that you cannot change that you left late? The best thing to do would be to take a deep breath and relax. You may arrive two minutes later than you could have but your health is going to be much better than if you would have driven crazily.
The second thing that you can do to help alleviate stress in your life is to realize that there is always and I mean always going to be something that comes up to get into your way. Relax and know that it is normal. This is just a part of life. Don't get angry. Just deal with it. If you are prepared ahead of time mentally for challenges then you won't feel so stressed when they come up. Here is an example. You are going to take the baby to the daycare before work. Guess what? The baby barfs on you. Don't get angry, it's a part of life. Remember paragraph one. Can you change it? Nope, just go change your clothes. You will be fine.
The third way to alleviate stress in your life is to only concentrate on today. Tomorrow has enough problems of its own. I know that this sounds sad, but if you look at it this way you won't worry at all. Tomorrow you may not be alive anyway. So why try to deal with tomorrows stuff. I have found that when you concentrate on today you can enjoy life today. You get to see how beautiful today is. Someone once told me a saying. It goes like this, "Inch by inch, it's a cinch". If you concentrate on the little things that are right in front of you then eventually you will conquer your mountain. You cannot look at the mountain though because you will get overwhelmed. By the way, I am not saying not to be wise and prepare for tomorrow. I am just saying don't concentrate on tomorrow when you have today to live for.
The last way to deal with stress in your life is to make a list of what needs to be done. This is a great place to mark down items that will take care of your future tomorrows. Do a little about tomorrow and then go on living today. Once you have made the list put it down and deal with your first item. If your brain tries to worry about the other items, tell it NO. Be in control. You are the boss. As you deal with each item on your list, scratch it off. This is a great way to make sure that you get everything accomplished without having to keep all of it in your head. Always be smart and do smart things too. For example, if you know that you have a lot to get the baby ready in the morning before you go to work; prepare things the night before to help you out. This way you aren't running around in the morning and feeling stressed out. Have everything ready before you go to bed.
There is one last word of advice that I can give to you. Learn to say NO to others. Do not allow others to put their responsibilities onto you. You have enough to deal with. Let them deal with their own. If you don't say NO you will become overwhelmed and this is a big cause of stress. I hope that this little article has helped you and given you some things to think on. May you be less stressful in this coming New Year.
