Five Ways to Celebrate National Radio Day

Bridget Ilene Delaney

August 20 is National Radio Day. The day was created by individuals from around the world who decided that they needed a national day of their own. It is not certain when the day was created, but it seems to have started in the 1990s.

It can be easy to celebrate National Radio Day. However, you can also be dedicated to celebrating the holiday. Here are five ways to celebrate national radio day.

Learn About the History of the Radio

This history of the radio is an interesting subject. While to some people it may seem like it is just a device that plays music, there is much more to the simple box that plays music. In a way, the radio is related to the telegraph and the telephone. Find out more by reading articles in encyclopedias, looking up information on the Internet, and going to your local library to find information.

Send Your Radio Workers Cards

Get the addresses of your local radio stations. Send at least one card to each station. If you can get a list of all the workers and you can afford it, send a card to each worker. If you do this as a class or a school, have each student design one card for each person.

Call Into Your Local Radio Stations to Wish a Happy National Radio Day

Calling into radio stations is easy. Call the station and let the station know that you would like to wish everybody there a happy National Radio Day. Sometimes they will even put you on the air while making such a wish.

Visit a Radio Station

Sometimes local radio stations will allow visitors. Sometimes they will give tours and let visitors know what is happening. If this is a possibility, go the local radio station and learn about the station and perhaps learn about the history of radio.

Listen to the Radio

The simplest way to celebrate National Radio Day is to sit down and listen to the radio. Of course, you don't have to sit. You can do whatever you want while you listen to the radio, too. This includes work and exercise. This means that at no time would you have to miss out on anything that you may normally do during the day.
