1. Donate your clothes.
Bless someone else who's less fortunate with the clothes you never wear anymore. Some of them may still have tags on them, but they just never made the final cut in becoming part of your weekly wardrobe. Rummage through your closet and pick out what you want to donate. Be sure to clean them first before you put them in a donation bin or take them to Goodwill.
2. Get rid of worn-out shoes.
Clear out your closet by ridding yourself of worn-out shoes. Don't fool yourself into believing you'll get a weather-beaten pair of shoes refurbished or repaired when this is not part of your normal habit. Give yourself 5 minutes to bag up the shoes you want to throw away and another 5 minutes to actually do it. This way, you won't be able to talk yourself out of doing the right thing.
3. Toss out damaged hangers.
Do you have cheap hangers that are broken or just wrong for your clothes hanging in the closet? Toss them. Surprisingly, these accessories can take up valuable "rung" space. Opt to purchase new ones that are intact and better suited for you. You can see an assortment at Hanger.com. At this Web site, you can purchase a variety of hangers from bamboo to fabric.
4. Use old purses in new ways.
Be true to yourself. You are never going to carry some of those old purses again. Besides the fact that they are all banged up and out-of-date, they don't match anything you own any more. Clear them out your closet by rethinking how to use them. Give a few to a young niece or daughter who still plays house. Take your totes to the grocery store as alternatives for plastic bags. Put some in the garage as tool holders. You can extend the life of your purses (and organize your closet) by just reinventing their purpose.
5. Recycle any tattered boxes.
Remember those old shoe boxes you keep at the back of your closet for a rainy day? You were going to utilize them to organize a space in your house, but now they are just collecting dust. Let them go! Throw those boxes in a recycling bin and; instead, purchase a few see-through containers that you can use throughout your house to get junk piles in order. These types of storage devices will last longer and help you keep track of all of your goods.
Ready to get organized? These five suggestions can help you bring order to a chaotic closet. Employ them and you'll finally be able to walk into your 'walk-in' closet again.
