Five Ways to Cope with Being Alone

Stephanie J. Graham
There may come a time when you are not in a relationship and being alone may feel unbearable. Fortunately there are ways to cope with being alone. The following tips can be very useful in these times.

Find Activities that Inspire

Think about what inspires you. It could be a favorite movie or book that always puts you in a good mood. Maybe it's helping out those who are in need. Whatever you find motivational can be used to help you to cope with being alone.

Pamper Yourself

Being alone can make you feel lousy about yourself at times. You may want to just pig out or stay in bed all day. However, Sulking and feeling sorry for yourself will only make you feel worse.

Instead, find ways to pamper yourself. Treat yourself the way you would if you were in a relationship. Get your hair and nails done. Keep in shape by exercising regularly. Watch the way you eat. Treat yourself special and you will feel special.

Who knows, someone may be drawn to your radiance!

Hook Up With Other Single Friends

Do you have a friend or friends who are single? Why not invite them on a girl's night out. There's nothing like having company when you are finding it difficult to cope with being alone. It can be a source of comfort and joy.

Find a Hobby

Do you have a hobby? If so this is a great time to incorporate this into your daily or weekly routine.

If you don't have a hobby this is a great time to find one. Think of something you are good at and that you enjoy. You can also think of something you have always wanted to learn and turn that into a hobby. Keeping your mind occupied with a hobby is a guaranteed way of forgetting about being alone.

Here is an interesting article by Laura Seeber from the Yahoo Contributor Network on finding a hobby and what to look for:

Seek God's Comfort

Last but surely not least, always remember that God is there as a source of comfort. This is especially reassuring at the end of the day when you are trying your best to fall asleep but can't. Thoughts of being alone or single may start to creep up on you. In times like these it is best to pray to God and meditate on his words.

Yahoo Contributor Network writer Josh Wiley wrote a great article entitled, 10 Comforting Bible Verses About Being Alone-Scriptures and Quotes on Loneliness . This should give you a great deal of comfort when being alone makes you feel depressed.

Being alone doesn't have to get you down if you find ways to fill the emptiness. Keeping your mind and body active with positive words and actions can help you to do this.
