Five Ways to Customize Plastic Patio Furniture

Plastic patio furniture, while quite cost effective, can be a little boring. These five ways to customize plastic patio furniture can turn your pieces into fun conversation pieces!

Spray Paint For Plastics. One incredibly easy way to customize plastic patio furniture is to paint it. There are a wide variety of spray paint companies that offer products especially designed for plastics, including patio furniture. Colors range a full spectrum, so there is definitely a hue that is right for any project. And one bonus of using spray paint that is especially designed for plastics is that there is no sanding or priming required!

Vinyl Stickers. Vinyl stickers have become a popular home decor trend in dressing up walls. But, few realize this method works just as well on plastic patio furniture! Choose a saying that suits your desires or have a custom wording created. Peel off the backing, stick on your furniture piece, and smooth with a small craft roller. (TIP: This project looks especially great when done post painting and drying the plastic patio furniture.)

Fabric Accents. Adding fabric accents are also another great way of customizing plastic patio furniture. In fact, fabric accents can be one of the most inexpensive ways to do so. These accents can range from decorative table cloths to chair padding. Best of all, fabric accents can be changed by season or by mood.

Monograms. Monograms are one of the hottest design trends right now. Adding your monogram to plastic patio furniture is incredibly easy and incredibly inexpensive. Use a computer word processing program to create a monogram letter in the size and font of your choice. Print the letter onto cardstock. Cut out the letter with a craft knife and discard the letter. (Keep the remaining cardstock piece.) Adhere the cardstock to the furniture with masking tape. Spray the monogram design on with spray paint or use a paint marker to fill it in. Once dry, your new monogram patio furniture is complete!

Stenciling. Along the same lines as the above monogram project, stenciling is another great option for customizing plastic patio furniture. Check the paint and wall decor section of your local home improvement store for wall stencils. Use brush on paints or spray paint designed for plastic to transfer the images onto the plastic furniture.

TIP: For a truly unique look, combine several of the mentioned methods for customizing plastic patio furniture.
