Medicine will improve the medical aspect, but it will not improve the functionally part. Thus, you need to find ways to develop new habits, change your attitude, and work this illness into your daily life to succeed.
Knowledge is Power
Learning all you can about your condition, and ask questions are the first action to take. If you know about your illness, you will be more in control of the situation.
Your physician is the number one source for: recommending an exercise program, reading materials, medication to take, and vitamins supplement. Keep your health care provider informed with all the changes.
Ban Depression
Living with arthritis can bring you down at times. The normal signs of depression usually start with: lack of appetite, tiredness, feeling worthless and disrupted sleep. When you experience these signs, talk to your doctor about them.
Make a list of friends and family who are most positive, encouraging, and uplifting to you. This is a circle of supportive people who will keep you active and cheerful.
Eat Healthy Meals
Once you are diagnosed with arthritis, it is up to you to make changes in your life in order to attain your goals. You can still continue with the life you have before, but with modifications.
Losing weight and eating more nutritious meals should be top on your list. You must be good to yourself to live a healthy life. Make sure your goal is realistic, and be consistent to achieve what you want.
Be Active
Ask your doctor to recommend the best exercises that you can do. People who keep active have more control over their illness.
Walking, cycling, swimming, and aquatic exercises seem to work best for people with arthritis. Start with a small interval, walk for five minutes, and slowly build up to strengthen your joints and muscles.
Learn Meditation Techniques
Relaxing techniques can also be beneficial for when you are stressed out. Keep your emotional and illness under control in your main goals.
Meditation is another good tool to acquire. A simple breathing can increase energy and relax muscle tension.
There are many programs that you can participate. A list of these programs can be found on The Arthritis Foundation website or call 877-232-2898. After deciding on an activity that you are interested in, check your local hospitals, or health clubs for more information.
The Arthritis Foundation has established May as National Arthritis Month, and kicking off awareness to help people with this disease. Check your local calendar for the Arthritis Walk events to start your walk-for-fitness.
