Hamburgers are definitely at the top of America's favorite foods list. Between fast food restaurants, diners and homemade meals, they are eaten almost everywhere throughout the country by thousands of people. From pan frying to broiling to grilling, hamburgers are not only prepared in many ways but can be topped with nearly anything you like, from the classic ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise, to over the top items like hot peppers or bean sprouts, depending on your taste buds.
Classic American Burger
The classic burger in America features a quarter pound of ground beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion on a hearty bun slathered with ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise.
Pizza Burger
Instead of a cheeseburger pizza, enjoy a pizza cheeseburger. Prepare hamburgers as you would normally. When the burgers are almost done, add a tablespoon of pizza sauce and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top of each. Continue to cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve on crusty Italian bread.
Steakhouse Burger
Put a little punch in your burger. Add a few tablespoons of steak sauce to your hamburger mix, before you create the patties. When the burgers have finished cooking, top each burger with French fried onions and additional steak sauce. Serve as an open-faced sandwich on garlic bread.
Stuffed Burger
Stuff your burger with cheese instead of using it as a topping. Prepare your hamburger mix as usual. Make thin hamburgers, doubling the number of burgers you need. Place a square of cheese in the center of half your burgers. Top with the remaining hamburger patties and squeeze the edges together to secure the cheese inside the meat. Cook as usual. Serve on a hearty Kaiser bun or hamburger roll.
Veggie Stacker
Design your own vegetable burger for vegetarian friends. Prepare a veggie burger as directed on the packaging. Top with thin sliced cucumbers, carrots, green leaf lettuce, tomato and bean sprouts. Drizzle homemade ranch or Italian salad dressing over the vegetables before serving. Serve on a whole-wheat hamburger bun.
