Five Ways to Green Your Dog

Britt Baker
We all try to do things to protect ourselves and the environment, but sometimes it's easy to forget about our dogs when it comes to keeping them healthy and green as well. Here are 5 ways to green your dog, so your furry friends are healthy and living as eco-friendly as possible, too!

1. Get your dog a bed made from organic cotton. An organic cotton bed is one great option for greening your dog. If you're crafty, you can make an organic cotton bed for your dog yourself! Switching to an organic cotton dog bed once his old bed is worn out or making sure his first dog bed is made from organic cotton is a great way to green your dog!

2. Feed your dog organic food. Organic, natural food is much better for people, so why not dogs, too? Organic food is much healthier for your dog than non-organic dog food, and it will help you keep her healthy throughout her whole life. Feeding your dog home cooked organic food is another awesome way to green your dog if you have the time, and is likely even healthier for your dog then store bought organic dog food.

3. Use natural and organic products to bathe your dog. Many dogs have sensitive skin, just like people do. So, an awesome way to keep your dog bathing routine as green as yours is is by making sure to use organic shampoo and skin care products made just for your furry friend. Organic shampoo and skin care products for dogs are free of toxic, harmful, and irritating chemicals which are often found in non-organic products.

4. Give your dog eco-friendly toys. There are plenty of green, eco-friendly dog toy options on the market! You can buy edible chew toys made of natural and organic ingredients or other toys made of non-toxic ingredients, or perhaps even recycled ingredients. Giving your dog eco-friendly toys is a great way to green your dog!

5. Fight fleas without using pesticides. There are many natural options for fighting fleas on your furry friends, so make sure to look into them before you reach for some harmful chemicals to fight fleas. Many flea fighting pesticides are very harmful for your dogs skin, and perhaps even toxic! Using natural remedies to fight your dog's fleas is a much safer option and a great way to green your dog!

A few drops of green food coloring in the dog's bath will have a greening effect as well! :-)
