If you are a homeschooler than you probably already know how difficult it can be to find enough time to get everything done in one day. One way to save time is to incorporate handwriting into each subject that your children do. Below are five ways that you can go about getting starting with incorporating handwriting into all subjects that you do.
Create a worksheet for each subject
There are plenty of programs available that will allow you to create your own worksheet. Base the worksheet on the information that you are currently covering with your family. For younger children you can make simple fill in the blank worksheets. This will help them to be able to get their handwriting practicing, and even spelling practice. For older kids you can make the questions more in depth.
Journal writing
You can have them write a small paragraph about all of the information that they have learned on a particular subject. For example if you are learning about frogs than you can have them write a paragraph about what new information they have learned. Younger children can write just a few sentences. A journal is a great way to document their writing practice. You can guide them through the writing process, and even include two lessons into one.
Give research projects
Research projects are really a great way to give your child a bit of handwriting practice. This will allow your children to learn basic research skills, and learn to express themselves. You may need to first show them how to writ a basic research project. Do a simple Google search to find a research paper outline. They can glue this into their notebook so that they always have a guide to follow.
Put themselves in the story
Writing a first person story is a great way for them to retain the information that they are learning, as well as get the extra handwriting practice. For example with History lessons they can put themselves into the story. Have them write about the sights and sounds that they would see if they were living during that time. You can also have them write down the reaction they have if they found themselves in the same historic situation.
Five minute writing response
To make the writing process even more enjoyable you can have them write a response to questions in five minutes. Base the question on whatever subject you are working on, and give them five minutes to write a response. This method may not work well for all students, particularly those who do not work well under pressure.
