Five Ways to Spice Up Your Marriage

Tara Van Ness
Every marriage goes through periods when it seems like the fire that once burned bright has now dimmed to barely a glow. If you've been married quite a few years, the demands of work, children, commitments, housework, finances can all zap the romance and sex life out of a marriage. What do you do to put the spice back in a marriage that seems to have gone downhill? You can start by using these romance tips to get the love light burning again in your marriage.

1. Don't have sex

What is that? That can't be right. No, you didn't misunderstand me. When you have been married for years, foreplay without sex can be a really erotic way to bring romance back into the marriage. Try going on a date and making out in the back of the movie theater like teenagers, or in the backseat of a car.

2. Speak each other's love language

Women typically feel sexiest when they are appreciated, taken care of, and seen as the beautiful creatures they are. Men typically feel sexiest when they are made to feel strong, recognized for their attributes of providing and protection, and when you show them physical affection. Of course, everyone is different, so take notice of the things that used to get your partner in the mood. Practice showing your partner love in the way they receive it the most, and the passion will soon return.

3. Serve Them

Give your wife a foot massage without the expectation of sex. Cook your husband a romantic dinner for no reason. Perform acts of kindness for your spouse and see how the passion returns to your marriage when your husband or wife sees how much you love them and want to please them in ways that don't involve just sex.

4. Get Away

Sometimes getting away helps to re-ignite the spark that has gone out of your marriage. It doesn't have to be an expensive vacation, it can be simply a day trip to a remove location, like a picnic in the woods. A romantic getaway to a bed and breakfast always seems to do wonders for a marriage in the romance department.

5. Take Care of Yourself

Many times, the romance goes out of a marriage because both partners stop taking care of themselves. The husband gets a big beer belly and grows stubble when he used to be slim and clean-shaven. The wife schleps around in house clothes and doesn't make an effort with her appearance anymore. Now, of course your spouse loves you for who you are. However, if you both begin taking care of yourselves physically, spiritually, and mentally, you will most likely become inspired to put the fire back into the marriage.

Married couples can put the spice back in their marriage if they both do what it takes to get to a place where they find each other, and themselves, exciting again.
