Five Work Habits to Take Home

Janet Hunt
Most people strive to keep their home and work lives separate. However, there is a time and place for the two to interact. Perhaps you need to bring some of that professionalism you have at work to your home.

Tidiness

Who can work and think clearly among a pile of clutter? Don't you clear off your desk each day before leaving work? Why not take this sense of neatness home with you? You will be surprised how much clearing away the clutter away will relax your mind and let you focus on getting the tasks accomplished that have been waiting for your attention.

Focus

Be realistic, your boss would fire you if he came around to see you chatting on Facebook or playing some computer game during work hours. How much of your day do you waste away not focusing on what needs to be done? Sure, allow yourself a little time after work to relax and unwind; but know when to say enough is enough!

Perfectionism

Perfectionism? That's right. How many times will you proofread a piece of correspondence you are sending from work to make sure every "I" is dotted and every "T" is crossed? This habit needs to follow us home. We have become sloppy in personal correspondence. Oh, and by the way, try cleaning up your own work before you tackle that of someone else.

Laughter

At work, we can often laugh at our own mistakes and take criticism with a grain of salt. Never take yourself so seriously, you cannot laugh at your own mistakes. Carry this attitude home with you and see how much more your loved ones enjoy being around you.

Timeliness

How many times will your boss allow you to be continuously late before you are reprimanded or even worse, fired? How much more would we accomplish in a day if we gave as much attention to getting to all planned activities on time as we do to getting to work on time? Your time is yours to make use of. Be accountable to yourself.

Great advice. I worked for one company that didn't allow laughter. Can you imagine? I hated working for that company, as you CAN imagine.
