Five YouTube Artists that Could Easily Go Prime Time

NBC recently aired a new TV show that was originally a Web-drama. Quarterlife began running on MySpaceTV.com and quarterlife.com in November with two segments airing each week, and was a big hit online. It was most likely the writers strike that sent NBC executives scouring the net for TV shows, but regardless of the cause, NBC snatched up the show and after a big to-do about it, the outcome was more like much ado about nothing. While NBC cancelled it after the very first episode and rumor is they plan to move it to the Bravo channel instead, it gives hope to You-tubers searching for fame that they might be discovered and move to Prime Time.

Perhaps choosing a drama was a bad move for the first internet to TV series. I find that I am much more intrigued by the amount and quality of comedy programs and singers that I find on the internet. If NBC wanted a big hit in moving a web show to the network, perhaps it could have chosen a comedic web comic or perhaps a series of web comics and performers and created a variety type show.

Just in case there are any NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox or other TV execs reading this (it could happen), here are my top 10 picks for You-Tubers who should be considered for Prime Time.

Cubefarm is a funny woman comedian whose web based sitcom is based in her office building and mostly in her own cube where she gives out sage advice to other cube dwellers. In her most recent episode, her alter ego, Cube Girl us currently a wanted woman as the powers to be want to stop her from saving the world, one cubicle at a time.

Tokenblackchick has already been recognized by You Tube and was even named Editor for the month of April 2007. She is best known for her 90 seconds you will never get back news shows where she dishes about celebrity news. She recently celebrated a very sexy Valentines Day in an episode with her teddy bear. Unfortunately, that video is now marked private.

News in Color, the show B.E.T doesn't want you to see, gives us his own brand of variety style comedy in a schizophrenic whirlwind of characters. His latest episode memorialized William F. Buckley in a very fitting and funny salute. He actually has a slightly more serious (but only slightly) show, KoteshiandMcMillan, where he shares the stage with an equally clever partner and discusses political and racial issues.

Kritz4prez is a young lady who speaks so candidly and honestly that it is alarming. She is also extremely funny, so funny that it's almost scary. She is so dedicated to her craft, that when she was sick with some kind of mutant flu, she felt it was her duty to entertain her audience with her sock puppet show. In her most recent episode, she caused sidesplitting laughter describing a boy from her class that was so good looking that she stares at him psychotically through the entire class only stopping to blink.

Finally, we come to Portugeseblues. This young lady who sings and plays the guitar is hauntingly brilliant and mesmerizing. I found her in a search for you-tubing homeschoolers. While she writes her own music, her latest performance is a cover song of Stop and Stare by One Republic.
