Five-Hour Energy

Dan Rozak
Feel it in minutes. Lasts for hours. This is what Living Essentials is promising will happen to you when you try their 5-hour Energy product. As soon as I saw a commercial for the product, I was ecstatic. Finally, a product that will give me the energy to make a hard workday feel like a nap. A product in which I wouldn't have to drive thru rush hour traffic because I would run to and from work with all that energy. Fly, maybe I could fly too! I would definitely get my hands on this, but decided to get some info first.

According to www.5hourenergy.com, the drink will give a person smooth energy and is not like other energy drinks that will leave one jittery. Thinking that Living Essentials has unlocked some sort of magic secret, I decided to see what was in this liquid concoction. The secret turned out to be a crap load of nutrients and vitamins. The drink has 8333% of Vitamin B12. My God, what if the amount equaled 8332%? Would it still give the productive afternoon it promises? Other nutrients included Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, and Niacin. An energy blend and an enzyme blend of ingredients are also included with caffeine being one of them.

Caution

I thought it couldn't be that bad for me. How dangerous can a bunch of vitamins be? The only concern I had was the Niacin flush side effect which was stated on the website. I never had that experience before, but a friend told me that it would just be some redness because of an increase in blood flow. No worries, I was ready to check it out.

Experience

I picked up the drink at my local Walgreen's and while reading over the product to try to see why it was worth its' five dollar price for two bottles, a man came over and picked up a few drinks and told me that the stuff really works. He told me he relied on the drink for working long hours. That comforted me a little so I decided to make the purchase. I opened the package as soon as I got into my car, and was a little surprised. It tasted like children's liquid Tylenol and kind of like syrup. It didn't taste very good; I needed to chase it down with a soda. It was like my first time drinking, "What's going to happen now?" was my thought. Ten minutes went by and I didn't feel a thing. Thirty minutes went by and nothing. The only thing I felt that whole day was a little burning in my throat and an urge to do a cartwheel. I cannot blame the cartwheel urge solely on the drink; I could have just had a happy moment.

Summary

To say the least, I was disappointed. I guess the company does not guarantee the results to everyone and I'm sure there are people that love this product like the gentleman I met in the store. I know my years of downing soda-by-soda daily had an effect on my experience. After all the hype, I had nothing to show for it. For me, I'll wait until the day where I can buy an anti-sleeping pill where I'll never have to nap.
