Fix Windows 7 Error Code 43

Windows Has Stopped This Device Because it Has Reported Problems

TechTips
Windows 7 error codes aren't that frequent but one that I have had a lot of encounters with when working with users PC's has been the error 43, which means something has gone wrong with a devices driver on the PC. The exact error you will see when you get a 43 error reads like this:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I have seen this error specifically with my iPod and with other users various devices, external hard drives are another common culprit. There isn't a single "fix" that will get rid of the 43 error but there are many different things you can do to try that will usually get rid of the pesky error.

First you should detach the device that is giving the error code and then reattach it to the PC again. If this still doesn't work try another USB port on the PC, you could have a bad USB port. If a different USB port doesn't work try using another cable for your device, bad cables are a common cause of this error. If you have a secondary computer, test the device on it, if it works on the other machine then you know it's a driver issue and not a hardware issue.

If the device worked on another PC then you know it's a driver issue and there are some more specific things you can try to get it working. First you should go to the device manufacturers home page and see if there is a firmware update or driver update. If there is download and install the new packages, this might solve your issue.

If new driver/firmware from the vendor doesn't solve your issue then you can try to let Windows 7 install its default drivers for the hardware. To have Windows 7 install default drivers for the device follow these steps:

1 - Click Start
2 - Right Click My Computer
3 - Click Manage
4 - Click Device Manager Option
5 - Right Click device reporting error 43
6 - Click Properties
7 - Click Driver Tab
8 - Click Uninstall
9 - Right Click you System at the top of the page
10 - Click Scan for hardware changes

This should allow you to let Windows search for the best driver for the device, it will install the one it deems best and hopefully your device will work once it has finished installing. If your device still doesn't work and reports the 43 error you will probably need to contact your products manufacturer you may have a defective or bad device and it will need repaired or replaced.

Well I hope that you are able to get rid of the Windows 7 error code 43.
