Fixing a Cell Phone with the Message "Flex Error: Subsidy Lock"

Chris Jones
Motorola cell phones are extremely popular nowadays. Everyone seems to have one, especially the Motorola v3 Razr. Because of its popularity, there are a number of people working on hacks and modifications to customize your Motorola cell phone. But often times, when you modify your phone, errors occur.

After flashing your cell phone with certain files or performing unlocking procedures on your cell phone, you will come across a message "Flex Error: Subsidy Lock". This message can be extremely annoying and it is a quick fix so why not try it.

The best way to get rid of this item is to obtain a p2k program and delete a certain file. I would suggest downloading p2kMan from http://www.planetmotox.net/motox101/seem_editing.htm. There is also a small guide there explaining how to use the program and how to modify files on your Motorola cell phone file system.

The program is essentially like Windows Explorer. It allows you to look at and modify files that are on your cell phone. It also shows it to you in an organized way so you can delete what you need.

But more importantly, you need to delete the file "secure_pds_init" which is located in the "a" / "mobile" / "system" folder of your cell phone. Deleting this file will not damage the function of your phone in anyway. It is a quick fix that will allow you to get rid of the Flex Error: Subsidy Lock message that shows up during power up.

After you delete this file, be careful not to restart the phone just yet. Instead, you need to go to your cell phone and go to the Settings menu. Then navigate to the Personalize option. Finally go to the Greeting menu of your cell phone and delete the start up message, which should say Flex Error: Subsidy Lock. All you need to do is delete the message or change it to something that you like. It can be anything of your own preference.

Once you have completed this, restart your phone by clicking restart on the p2k program or pressing the power button on your cell phone. After you reboot your phone, the Flex Error: Subsidy Lock message should disappear and should not come back again.

So essentially, you just need to delete the file and either delete the message or replace it with something of your own preference. This will help you get rid of the "Flex Error: Subsidy Lock" message that bothers you
