Fixing Out of Date Addons After a "World of Warcraft" Patch Release

Robert Rohe
I can't play World of Warcraft without addons. There, I said it. I hate the original setup. I hate the action bars Blizzard made for the game. I wish Blizzard would add more addon style updates into the game (e.g. Auctioneer, Omen, etc). Sure, there are people that will disagree and say they love the original interface. I call them liars. Not to their faces, mind you, but under my breath. At home. In my office.

So, what happens when Blizzard delivers a content update patch and the addons are all out of date? Getting used to seeing one thing and then the whole game is reverted back to its original form is jarring.

But, it happens. So now, in the immortal words of Douglas Adams, "don't panic." Generally, the content patches are hyped up, so addon developers are aware that they will be releasing. Sometimes, developers are even updating their addons with the PTR builds.

What does this mean for you, the player? This means that within the first day after the patch hits sites like Curse will have updated versions of your favorite addons for you to download. If you're trying to download that day, chances are download speeds will be a little slow since almost 12 million other people are trying to update their addons as well. Don't worry if you're having trouble getting things to download. If your server is anything like mine it will likely not be up before you have to go to bed anyways.

So, with a little patience you can get your game looking the way it did before the current patch. Patch releases are also a great time to try out new addons. If you're going to be downloading stuff anyways, why not try something different or new.
