Flash Gordon
Flash Gordon, the work of Alex Raymond, premiered in 1933. His character soon went on to do radio shows and TV.
Although early collectibles are very rare, several pieces of clothing from early casts have brought in tens of thousands of dollars.
A few other items have brought big amounts in auction as well including Flash Gordon's Map of comics at $1,000; Flash Gordon Radio Repeater Click pistol by Marx, $2,000; a sparkling ray gun still in box, $1,000 and a 1936 window card for $10,000.
A few color portraits from the 1930s are valued at $1,000 each, while a two-way walkie talkie can be worth over $300. A 1934 Flash Gordon and Dale Arden pin set is valued at $300.
Another thing to watch for are movie club pin and cards. And, the 1950 Flash Gordon costumes go for about $500.
Keep you eyes open for vintage posters, press books, caps and belts as well.
Dick Tracy
This copper first came around in 1931. Dick Tracy has an enormous amount of collectibles as he was big from the start.
If you search hard you are sure to find vintage books, magazines, toys, premiums, records and toys.
But, which ones bring in the most bucks? A Dick Tracy wrist radio by Damco is valued at $12,000. An electric rapid fire tommy gun metal in box, marked 1947 may fetch up to $5,000. Store displays from the 1940s are worth $2,000-$4,000. A Dick Tracy hat by Miller sells for about $2,500.
If you are a collector starting out small look for pinbacks, kits and Remco wrist radios. You may soon grow to bigger and bigger items.
The Lone Ranger
In the early 1930s the #1 rated radio show was The Lone Ranger. Some of the best give-aways of all -time were of Lone Ranger and Tonto.
What should you look for? How about a Lone Ranger Meteorite Ring? It goes for $15,000-$25,000. That's the top of the line item.
For average collectors keep your eyes open for a Marx pistol. In mint condition it is worth almost $1,000.
Some items averaging about $50 include a Lone Ranger Horseshoe Badge, Lone Ranger six pointed stars, Lone Ranger glow in the dark saddle ring with film, Lone Ranger flash light pistol, Lone Ranger silver bullet pencil sharpener and a Lone Ranger Kix Atomic Bomb Ring.
Roy Rogers
In the late 1930s Roy Rogers was the King of the Cowboys. He and his horse trigger were on countless radio and TV shows. Although Rogers died in 1998, he is still the top western TV item collector.
The biggest items to look for are can gun sets, display stands and boxed toys featuring Rogers. A double gun holster set goes for about $900; an ad for his cookies about $40; a rubber riveted knife in holster, $150.
You will also find cups, gloves, sheaths, spurs and signs selling for various prices. With Roy Rogers almost every vintage item is valuable and on the rise. So, if you see something, pick it up.
