I admit this game is totally impractical, annoyingly difficult, and visually nauseating. I also will sadly admit that after all these years of playing Barbie NES 8 bit Nintendo Game and bragging about how fun it is I have yet to get past the level 3 Waterfall Level.
The game, in short, is pretty much impossible to beat. But you have to admit that those games that seem unbeatable often present quite a tantalizing challenge that is hard to pass up. I have not yet shown a single person this bizarre Barbie Nintendo Game and had them refuse my offer to let them try to beat it. Really, it is that addicting.
What you get is a scrolling screen in which you are to navigate a gigantic life-sized Barbie character (who literally takes up the whole screen from top to bottom) through various rooms that have no identifiable resemblance to real life settings and collect jewels of some sort. Barbie's Amazon woman-like size is definitely the major obstacle in getting through the game, in addition to the fact that she is a stiff body and only jumps straight up and down. It is truly strange and it takes several plays to figure out what in the world the objective is to get through the levels.
And the scenes are drowning in bright Barbie like pink. So again, while I have yet to get past the low level of three for some reason I just can't stop picking up Barbie Nintendo Game to play again once in a while. And yes, each time it is just as frustrating as the last but I'm telling you once you start you just cannot stop. And for any guy reading this you might be interested to know that my male friends who I've coerced into trying this Barbie Game out "just once" seem to be more hooked than my girl friends. When I used to share an apartment with five other people, it was not rare for me to wake up and find a friend who has crashed at our house on a Friday or Saturday night to be up bright and early in the living room playing none other than the Barbie Video Game.
Barbie Video Game for 8 bit NES Nintendo Systems without a doubt has all the components necessary to make for a total flop of a game. But it was the kind of game that you hated so much you'd do anything just to beat.
So you'd play it and play it and play it getting a little further along each time before you lost all your lives and had to start all over again from Level 1. The more you tried to beat it the more attached you got to that obnoxious pink dream theme and even the awful music becomes unnoticeable after awhile. Soon you'd realize hours had passed and you'd spent the whole time playing Barbie. And maybe you wouldn't consciously have chosen to spend your time doing such a thing in retrospect but the fact is you did. While you were doing it something uncontrollable took over and told you to keep playing keep playing, beat the stupid game beat the stupid game. Until you just couldn't help but become one with it.

Post a CommentI'm glad it's not just us. My son and I (he's 22, not 6) have played this game every so often for years. We make it to the end world, but can't get past the music record thing. He says it's harder platforming than anything else he's done. And we don't admit we play it, to anyone, haha!
