Flashback Tribute to Bart Simpson and the Space Mutants Video Game for 8bit Nintendo Systems

This explanation of one of the most memorable 8 bit original Nintendo games from my childhood is a follow up article to "Ode to the Most Memorable Old School 8 Bit Nintendo Games" by Lori Voth. It also coincides with " Flashback Tribute to Barbie Video Game for NES 8 Bit Nintendo Systems" and "Flashback Tribute to Back to the Future Parts II and III Video Game for 8 Bit Nintendo Systems" also by Lori Voth.

Now, finally I present to you my third place winner (in no real order of importance) of my all time most memorable (for good and for bad) NES 8 bit Nintendo Game System video games ever made which you might know of as Bart Simpson and the Space Mutants.

Oh don't get me wrong I think Bart totally rocks but this game is so poorly designed that after endless hours, days, months trying every which way to get the sluggish Bartman to jump up to a window that he was obviously supposed to reach to get the stupid item he needed and failing miserably time after time again, it gets really frustrating. Then you start taking turns with your friends to see if someone else can't get past the first few levels that seem to keep getting you stuck and they fail too. It feels like a waste of time but part of you just cannot stop until you accomplish the next level.

I maintain it is absolutely not possible to beat Bart Simpson and the Space Mutants NES video game unless you have the Game Genie. With that awesome little video game system component, though, Bart Simpson and the Space Mutants becomes fabulously fun.

Remember the Game Genie? It essentially was a little cartridge you stuck in your NES console with the game you were at the moment playing and it allowed you to cheat or excuse me...experiment with more appealing features of the game as long as you had the proper code to plug in during startup.

The genie itself was like a NES 8 bit Nintendo fanatics dream come true; it offered possibilities such as unlimited lives, unlimited tokens, unlimited continues and so much more.

But ah, with the grueling and frustrating Bart Simpson and the Space Mutants game it opened a player up to a whole other world. My friends and I (the ones who were not too embarrassed to sit and try and figure this nonsense out for hours at a time each day) were giddy with delight when we came across the Game Genie codes to allow our beloved character Mr. Simpson to jump extremely higher and be always and forever invincible.

So I guess I could say that the Bart Simpson and the Space Mutants video game was tolerable and the right combination of challenging and entertaining if and only if you had some means to obtain a properly operating Game Genie console component to which you also knew the proper Bart Simpson games codes. Once that was set you were good to go. From that point on the game can be a blast, addicting, suspenseful and just like the Barbie and Back to the Future Parts II and III games mentioned, can make for some really cozy memories.
